Super Smash Bros Screenshot (11.3.14): Prism Tower Revealed

Like with Brawl, Sakurai will be providing daily updates on the development progress of Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS through Miiverse.

Today's update is a screenshot of Lumiose City Stage from Pokemon X&Y. Presumably it will be a 3DS only stage.

A lot of attention has been being paid to the 3DS version lately. Maybe Sakurai is trying to show a lot more of a difference between the console and handheld versions. Whatever the reason for the attention its nice to see this level added to the 3DS Smash.

3ds version shouldn't exist as it's holding the WiiU version back from it's true potential!

I actually agree. While a 3DS version is an amazing idea, there's no doubt it will drastically lower Wii U sales because people will say "I can get it for cheaper and it's portable."

I think he wasn't talking about how its existence will compromise sales but rather the very development process of the Wii U version, which could very well be true, unless they got two entirely different teams working on each version, yet both being directed by the same people, which would be the smart thing to do and I trust Sakurai just enough to think he's not gonna screw up like that.

@Pyg

Thanks for the clarification. I would prefer just a Wii U version, so all resources go into making it the best Smash possible.

Well, the 3DS version is happening so they'll also want to focus on it, meaning less resources for the Wii U. But, if the developers are capable enough, they'll be able to make the best game possible on both platforms.

At least Sakurai's team is well acquainted with the 3DS thanks to Kid Icarus, so they shouldn't have trouble figuring the system out. Yet, the Wii U is an all new platform, and that's my only real concern.

The 3DS version, though, like it or not, was inevitable from a business standpoint, it's just genius 'cause not only will it attract 3DS owners, but also Smash Bros fans who happen to own both Nintendo systems and want to check out each version. Admittedly, I might just fall for this scheme, as I own both platforms myself, but there would have to be a significant difference in content to make the 3DS version appeal to me.
