Gaming Standards 101: Snow/Ice Levels

PlayMagazine writes: "The ice world is typically defined as taking place in an environment partly, or wholly, filled with frozen H2O. As if nature’s banana skin weren’t bad enough in real life, somewhere along the lines someone decided that it’d be a great idea to bring whole levels based on slippery slidey water into the realm of gaming.

When ice/snow levels amount to an aesthetic idea, or something that’s inherently tied into the overall narrative of the game, I have no problem getting behind them, after all, it pays to spice up your environments lest the player get a little tired of the same old backdrops time after time, but whenever that’s not the case, they get a little trickier to stomach."
