Titanfall’s (proposed) DLC model should set the next-gen standard

GameZone: The Tuesday of legend is fast approaching: May 11 will bring both Titanfall and Dark Souls 2, both with egregiously large red carpets of hype trailing behind them. Personal interest aside, however, the former is arguably more interesting, as we already have a solid incline as to what to expect from FromSoftware’s next release. Titanfall on the other hand has only become relatively fleshed out in recent weeks, what with its onslaught of betas, screenshots and announcements.

Dark Souls did dlc right last gen

Mikefizzled1348d ago

I think From Software waited a little long but it was great when it finally arrived.

That's called developing DLC after all production has been completed. Rather than offering "day one" DLC which was made in tandem at the possible compromise of the main project's quality.

They said it wouldn't be getting DLC so there must of been a between phase of game being released and dlc not being worked on or thought about.

DanielGearSolid1348d ago

The fact that they weren't gonna release dlc (From Software) pretty much proves that it wasn'tjust part of the game saved for a cashin later on

Now Zampella, I cant 100% believe because obviously dlc was the plan from day one... With that already established I guess things were saved for dlc purposes. Whether Ea made the call, or respawn

AtomicGerbil1348d ago

Competitive multiplayer games maybe, but for anything else how is map packs going to be accepted as standard.

The point of the article

Its talking about their concept I believe..

Its not the standard "make a bunch of random crap, split it into 4 parts and sell for $60" formula..

They have ideas for things that couldn't make it into the game.. Its not filler mappacks or micro transactions.. It will serve a purpose and at a fair price..

At least in theory.. Lol.. We'll have to see what they actually release

AtomicGerbil1348d ago

Are we forgetting this is EA?

n4rc1348d ago

Ea are just the publisher.. Not the developer

AtomicGerbil1348d ago

Quite right, but you can't dismiss them. Wasn't it EA that sold exclusivity rights from right under Respawn's nose. I cannot trust them until we see what's released.

Author lost me at Titanfall is "arguably more interesting" than Dark Souls 2 lol!

But surely what we would want to set the next gen standard DLC model would be Killzone, since it's, y'know, FREE?!

Anyways, Titanfall gets intrigue points for being a new IP from a new(ish) dev team, while Dark Souls 2 gets a whole bunch for being already-guaranteed sheer awesomeness!

Bring 'em on! :)

Mikefizzled1348d ago (Edited 1348d ago )

Lots of games throw out the odd piece of free DLC and Killzone definitely wasn't the first to give away free maps. It also has a $20 Season Pass which will be the next gen standard.

G20WLY1348d ago (Edited 1348d ago )

^It was the first this gen, to my knowledge, and that's what we're talking about, right?

If I'm wrong, feel free to set me straight, learning's good.

I think I like TF2's model more...

Starhawk and Killzone have all map packs for free. Is that not better?

Infernostew1348d ago

May 11? Uh... Proofread please.
