Why Nintendo games need a stronger sense of continuity.

Nintendo games tend to lack a sense of continuity. Games like Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze have very little to do with it's predecessors, leaving them feel a bit meaningless story-wise. This article explore the possibility of Nintendo adding a greater sense of continuity between it's games.

I wouldn't completely say Nintendo needs a "stronger
' continuity. Legend Of Zelda has one of the craziest story plots. That series has three different time lines going. I guess one of the exciting thing's about the announcement of a new Legend of Zelda game is what time line does it fall in.

Another Series that has a pretty strong story is the Metroid franchise. That story has been unfolding for some time now. If anything that changes is the style of the games.

Donkey Kong Country back on the SNES had a very good trilogy as well.

I think as the property's change hands it causes the story to be affected. Developers a lot of the time can't use a lot of the characters from another developers game. So there for the story and the characters need to be changed. You see evidence of this in games like Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario RPG Legend Of The Seven Stars.

Nintendo could always run into what is know as series fatigue. Look at Call Of Duty and Assassins Creed. Those franchises are being run into the ground because there annually releasing them. I think Nintendo has a good grasp on there franchises and knows what they want to do with them.

Why is continuity so important?...

Haven't you ever seen a Tarantino flick?

Gameplay is more important than story.

But why should we settle for one or the other when we can have both? Look at the Metroid Prime series. Both! Now, not every game needs a great story. Donkey Kong Country is more humorous than anything. Still, I'd love to see more stories from Nintendo.

I don't think they need to tackle story in series that have never had them but they should try to create new franchises which are story driven since they don't have access to third party franchises like Sony or Microsoft, people who like story driven games are turn off the Wii U (3ds is o.k because it has third party support)

Pokemon professor l and a few others like fire emblem are very story driven so is star fox and f zero. Yet these games are out of the reach skill wise to most gamers.

The wiiu and ds lines need to be unified. So many console only gamers are missing out on the biggest part of gaming because of it.
