In a world where gaming enthusiasts are constantly being reminded on how 'close' to the brink of destruction Nintendo is, the concrete evidence always seems to depict otherwise.
Clearly Nintendo is not in any sort of dire situation. Good to see Nintendo is expanding. Hope this speeds things up with game development. Can't wait for E3!
hopefully they gonna try to create new IPs instead of regurgitating the same old games over and over and over with a new sauce on it. look, i like mario/zelda/metroid/dk, but would REALLY like to see nintendo be creative and try to create a brandnew ip, ...at least TRY it ffs.
Agree extremely much.
Wonderful 101 & Miyamoto has been working on a new one for quite some time.
@Vegamyster while i enjoyed the wonderful 101, its more from Platinum than Nintendo. @mrpsychoticstalker again with your urine tears? damn, you must be more salty than salt itself. all thoses failed attempts at grasping nonexistant straws wont give you a second bubble even if you try really REALLY hard, sry brah.
@PeaSFor Nope. The Wonderful 101 is a Nintendo IP. It's original idea was to star Nintendo characters.
W101 is funded and owned by Nintendo.
you mean like how you guys keep on regurgitating the same old criticism over and over and over atleast THEY put "a new sauce" on it you guys cant seem to change it up. atleast their games still get 10/10s like 3D world you however get a .01/10 for lack of trying .001 for originality
They've never cease making new I.P.s every year for the past 20 years. Nintendo has over 70 I.P.s Most Nintendo and Sony fanboys are just so blind to reality that they just ignore them and keep regurgitating this same tired tired crap about them needing to do something that they've always done. Wonderful 101, Dillon's Rolling Western, Pushmo/Crashmo, Steel Diver, Nintendo Land, Rusty's Real Deal Baseball just to name a few in the last 2 years. Stop spouting ignorance born of your own biased myopia.
Stop building offices and build a new (powerful) console ASAP
I think we can all agree to this ;)
At Nintendo, works begins on a new console the day the current generation console ships. So even though you wrote a dumb comment, ironically, Nintendo is working on a presumably more powerful console as we speak!
Yeah, those wonderful consoles that have made enormous negative billions of dollars... ha ha ha
even if nintendo wont do good in this generation, Im quite certain they wont leave console business for at least 1 more gen.
They are doing great in this generation. The 3DS is the best selling system on the market. Only the Wii U is having problems. Everything else Nintendo is doing is extremely successful.
I wonder who they mean by "Others". Clearly Microsoft is building just as many studios as Nintendo. And Sony hasn't closed any of theirs as far as I know.
Uh yes Sony has closed studios in 2012 and cut ties with Superbot Entertainment last year. Sold old buildings and laying off employees. Sony is try reconstruct themselves.
in his defense he did say "as far as i know" ...sadly he doesnt know alot.
You don't know a whole lot then apparently. Sony closed at least 5 studios over the last few years and they've been bleeding money. Why do you think Nintedo, which is less than half Sony's size, is worth more than Sony in its entirety right now.
Article forgot to state that Nintendo development team is a fraction of modern game developers...maybe this is why there hiring?Notice how the article says it does not have more studios than sony, even if Sony closed almost half of its studios it would still have more employed than Nintendo. Nintendo is waking up to modern game development and releasing the amount of man power they have right now is to little and this is why Mario kart and brawl did not come out near launch because there was just not simply enough people to make it fast enough.
Yo Muffins let me give you economics 101. There was a bank by the name of Washington Mutual and they decided that the best way to grow there brand was to buy other banks and buy out loans. This backfired and the company is now gone. Sony had all these studioa and look at them now cutting teams selling buildings selling, Selling off divisions. Selling parts of their soul to get money money They have kept the studios small because it enables greater quality of software produced.
Nintendo is the ones who desperately need new studios. Sonys good, and Microsoft leaches off of 3rd party's with timed exclusives and makes it by somehow.
Do you know just how many studios Nintendo has? Sony leeches off of third parties every bit as much as Microsoft if not more. Nintendo is the only one of the 3 that doesn't need to. Otherwise, they would have died after the N64.
Well it doesn't show lilbro they keep rehasing the same games...and all of microsofts AAA "exclusives" end up on pc or other platforms down the line, except for Forza being the only one that hasn't. -__- c'mon you know what I'm saying. If you have a sony console and a PC the reasons to own the other 2 are next to none.
Boo... Sony sold their US headquarters. Developers dropping left and right. Look at the bigger picture.
If you have the PC there is no reason for a Microsoft or Sony product. Nintendo is the only one who offers something that you can't get better on PC. They chose a new way of playing the games as apposed to trying to boast specs and making a stagnant PC like the PS4 and Xbone. Secondly, Nintendo does the least rehashing. If you consider sequels rehashing, then Gow, Gran Turimso, Killzone, Infamous, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Motorstorm and pretty much everything under Sony's banner is just the same game, gameplay and all with just better graphics and new equipment/cars and tweaked abilities to use. Same with Halo, Forza, and Gears of War on the Xbox. The entirety of the game and its gampelay changes with almost every Nintendo sequel. That is why there are so many people who are fans of one Zelda or Super Mario game and not another. Its because they are completely different games with different physics, controls and everything. They just feature the same mascots. Also, Nintendo's sequels are the most susseful games in the industry. Why would any company on the planet Earth stop producing something that makes them more money than all of their competitors combined make? I'll never understand the logic of people who try to attack Nintendo success with their old franchises. Sony and Microsoft release games in same the series even more frequently than Nintendo. Their game are simply not as successful. At the most you will see 2 of one series of any Nintendo game on one of their systems. How many Ratchet and Clanks and Gow's were on the PS3? How many Gears of War and Halo's were on teh 360?
Idk lilbro I've been rolling with Nintendo since nes...and they've been rehashing the same games since. It's been 20+ years and yeah they may change a bit in their games but it's still the same old setting, the same old characters, the same old story, atleast get some new cpncepts ya know?....Sony are the only ones who consistently come up with fresh ips.
An ego massage for Nintendo fans plus mistranslation. Nothing to do here.
I'm not too sure it's possible to mistranslate photo proof.
The article says "development" not exactly studios. Maybe this building is just for the QoL stuff, not game related.
So, posting countless articles that go like "Nintendo is doomed", "Nintendo should just quit", and many more is ok, but a positive note (albeit the title could be less inflamatory) is "an ego massage". Fine, have it your way.
They are the same thing. This article is for Nintendo fans and "Doomed Nintendo" articles are ego massage for Nintendo haters.
Love it when people like you don't reply to any comments when the disagrees come rolling in pfft typical.
I'm not here all day long. Maybe it takes some time to reply.
Hey look at me I can waste a bubble too... I'm guessing he didn't use the last one either.
translation. Ego massage bonerkill troll post. You sure like to try and ruin someones day.
It's a new reseach and development building... expanding companies need new buildings, I'm not sure on how and why that would be considered an ego massage? Not to mention there is literally no word what exactly is going into this building... could it be their QOL stuff, sure, could it be R&D on new systems or software development who knows... but no need to just go and troll on.
Everyone is closing and opening studios. Everyone is hiring and firing. This is not specific to any single console maker, developer, or publisher. It just happens. Edit: This week, sure. It's constantly happening though. Yes, this is positive news for Nintendo. That's fantastic! Iwata is doing a great job and I hope he stays. I'm just trying to steer people away from the flame bait title. I guess that's what I get for trying to be impartial.
That's not the point, though. Nintendo is doing less firing/closing and more hiring/opening than haters like to hear about. Now, if you're of an even-minded nature, then this news is positive about Nintendo and Nintendo alone, by proving their situation isn't as dire as trolls want others to think.
Yep. NOA on a hiring spree right now. Maybe when they open this new building for business the games will start flowing like a raging river.
Iwata even said last year "laying off employees is not the solution". The past few months Nintendo has done nothing but position for strength, whether it's more company buildings, increased marketing venues, or stock buybacks. 2014 will be a new year, and so will 2015 and so forth
Nintendo last person fired was that women who made E3 2008 terrible. Other than that. No reports of Nintendo firing or closing building existed.
What wonderful said. Even though we have stories of Nintendo's high execs taking pay cuts I have yet to see a Nintendo "lays off" story on N4G. That can't be said for any other company in the video game industry.
I guess Nintendo isn't everyone then, because the only think Nintendo be doing is cutting exec paychecks! You're getting downvotes for being wrong! EDIT: It's really their problem if they get mad that Nintendo is expanding which other studios who are apparently less doomed than Nintendo aren't. I see what you're saying, but this is minimal compared to other articles here.
No. I'm getting "downvotes" because nobody looks beyond what's happening today. This article was written to entice people into starting these debates. I'm TRYING to prevent that.
@WeAreLegion come on man... you know you can't prevent that on this site, it's as evitable as MariaHelFurina posting negative xbox news or the down vote into oblivion forever saying anything negative about ToLU.
The others don't milk their mascots though.
Your right they milk them to death and abandon them when they are no longer profitable. Crash. I'm looking at you. Also what the hell was PlayStation All Stars then?
Sony never owned Crash.
Yes, Sony and Microsoft never milked any franchises./S *Cough*Gears of War*Cough* God of War*Cough*Halo*Cough
The HELL they don't.
I know right? It is always better to fire people and leave them destitute than to capitalise on a popular product by giving consumers more of what they want...
i know right if only there was 5 uncharted games, 4 gears of war 6 halos, 10 CoD, 6 Assassin Creeds, 13 final fantasies, 3 infamous games i hate that main mario games come out like 6 times in 1 console generation. they should tone it down and come out only once every several years
Uh... what? I wasn't replying to you, but Chrono, who made the absurd statement that other companies don't milk their mascots. :/
2 God of War games on PS2, 2 God of War games on PS3, and 2 on PSP. 3 or 4 Ratchet games on PS3. 2 Infamous games on PS3. 3 Motorstorm games on PS3. 2 Little Big Planet games on PS3, plus Little Big Planet Karting (which was made to replace Modnation Racers). 2 Killzone games on PS3, 3 Uncharted games on PS3. As for Microsoft... 3 Gears of Wars (I think) and about 4 or 5 Halo games for Xbox 360. Care to reconsider what you just said?
not really...no problem?
This is just a list of games featuring Mario, the milking comment is definitely justified... (obviously i'll get disagrees for this though, as most Nintendo fans are blind to just how much Mario is pushed into every game they make) http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
It will always be believed by the unwashed massed that Nintendo is doomed. However as Sony is forced to sell off headquarters and cancel whole divisions Nintendo is building new ones and branching out even more. Oh and for anyone who cares to look it up Nintendo as a company is worth more than Sony is right now. The total units sole never tell the entire story. An it may be true that the Wii U is under preforming and the PS4 is doing extremely well. That doesn't erase the billions Sony has lost over the past few years (i.e 5.5 billion lost in 2012 and 1.1 billion is 2013). And Nintendo's low Wii U sales are offset by the huge sales of the 3DS. Its a bigger business than most people realize and there is more to it that total units sold.
Sony is losing money due to its other products that are inferior and overpriced usually. Except ps4, as an xbox guy, they got themselves a good thing there. But there is no sony tv or phone or computer Id buy over various competitors ever.
Uh, think again son. They are losing money on the PS4 as well. They hope to make up the difference with software, accessory sales, and services. But they are losing money on hardware. All of the big three are losing money on hardware.
I meant game division hduce
consoles are part of the game division... ps4's are being sold at a loss and ps3 bled money for years. great systems, but gushed out buckets of blood
Ya I realize that but other parts of the gaming division are profitable.
Not sure if you're trying to make Sony look bad or what but SCEA sold their headquarter to get a way bigger one http://n4g.com/news/1352188... and Sony lost money because of their others products like phones, TV's, etc, but the gaming division SCE has never lost money and if it wasn't because the 3DS, Nintendo would be already broke because not only the Wii U isn't selling well but its being sold at a loss http://arstechnica.com/gami... , so get your facts right.
Their gaming division has never lost money... are you serious? They lost 3.3 billion in 2008, lost 4.7 billion in 2009, $890 million loss in 2010, $312 million loss in 2011, 2.8 billion loss in 2012, only 8 million in 2013. So you sir need to do some major research first. Oh and the PS4 is selling at a loss too. These facts are not hard to find... try google and Playstation losses
Currently the PS4 is being sold at a 60 dollar loss. The PlayStation lost billions during the life of the PS3. You don't know what you are talking about and need to leave the conversation. For accurate numbers see nifonge's comment. Do your homework please.
@Dan_scruggs right!? and yet there are disagrees for facts and numbers without a reply... shocking.
its true bud our sony have lost money from the game division @th4freak &zombiedust
I hope this building will be the source of many Wii U OS/Library improvements to come.
where would Nintendo be without their handheld? What brand new successful franchises has Nintendo created in the last 10 years? Yes, Nintendo has lots of money but they are still stubborn. I wish them the best but something has got to give Iwata.
