Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes vs Metal Gear Solid 4 Comparison – A Generational Leap

Worlds Factory:
"With Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes coming in less than two weeks, we thought it would be appropriate to compare available screens from next-gen version of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes with Metal Gear Solid 4 screens, and to see how big is the generational gap." (Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

The colorless gen is finally over lol
Irishguy95  +   171d ago
Haha, yeah I think Halo and Uncharted are the only 2 big games that kept colour in their palette
SolidGear3  +   171d ago
Beyond: Two Souls and The Last of Us?
yezz  +   171d ago
GTA V, Far cry 3, Minecraft... But it's true that there were loads of washed-out games last gen.

MGS4's sound is so underrated (scratch the... so, not talked about), yet it is hands down the best sounding game of the generation. People need to give over about graphics for a day or two. Start noticing sound instead.

I think he means at the beginning of the 7 gen guys
Alexious  +   171d ago
Kinda true, there were many washed-out palettes, mainly in the early part of the generation though.

Though I never had problems with "colorless" games. First that comes to mind is Killzone 2, and I really enjoyed its enviroments.
So much, I complained Shadow Fall is just too colorful. :)

But seeing more colors can't be a bad thing either.

Well to be fair KZ2 was during a major war. It;s not like there's gonna be rainbows and magical unicorns during the game. The setting actually drew me in it was gritty time for the ISA.

Agree with vegeta.
While colours were "absent" through most the levels they all came alive through attention to detail and nuances. it seemed alive or real and it all drew me in.

Now we have the "bloom" gen to look forward to

Nah, Bloom gen was Xbox one.
Tony-A  +   171d ago

I'm not even sure what that means...

@ Tony

MGS4 had color. It is that off white kind of yellow/gray. Every mgs has a color that pops out. MGS1(blue), MGS2(green blue), MGS3 (mostly green with some yellow)
dillhole  +   171d ago
I blame Gears Of War for that.
KillerPwned  +   171d ago
I still think MGS 4 was one of the best looking games of last gen. I'm expecting MGS V will make that mark to with Phantom Pain. But on the color side MGS 4 really is very greyish as MGS V is extremely vibrant and full of beautiful colors.

I consider it as big as the last of us in last gen. But it looks good for this gen. It would have been better if they focused on this gen.
Alexious  +   171d ago
Nah...The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls are the best looking games of last gen.

MGSIV isn't even close.
elhebbo16  +   171d ago
maybe color wise but the animations and textures on the characters where solid in my opinion.
PS4FEVER  +   170d ago
NOT really, these screenshots are bullshots. Mgs4 looked better than those. Different levels of mgs4 had its own colors. It wasnt all grey, but then again its war time, kojima chose the colors for a reason. My only issue with mgs4 was that it was broken into chapters, unlike mgs3. Mgs3 is still the game to beat.
Festano  +   171d ago
The differences are obvious, I think I get it.
FantasyStar  +   171d ago
I would've been more interested in a last-gen comparison. I already know the PS4/XB1 would look nicer. It would've been more interesting to see a PS3 comparison of MGS4 and MGS5.
MorbidPorpoise  +   171d ago
Gotta love those nextgen weeds lol.
micx  +   171d ago
Weed and lots of colors on next-gen :O
TheFinalEpisode  +   171d ago
MGS4 still looks great, bland in color but still one of the most realistic looking console games out there.
JunkyardWillie  +   171d ago
Ubisoft should take notes...Just saying
PersonMan  +   171d ago
Ground Zeros looks really good, but it looks more like a late last-gen game than a next-gen game. I mean, look at the freakin' PS3 build of the game... it's nearly identical to the next-gen version. Obviously the textures and frame rate have been increased in the next-gen versions, but texture quality and frame rate doesn't really make a game next gen to me.

I expect more from a next gen game. More objects in the environment. More vegetation. Better lighting. Longer draw distances. Less LOD pop-in. Better animations. Way better physics. More dynamic lighting and real time lighting. Better weather effects and wind effects. More particles. Better facial animation.

I seriously think Ryse and Killzone Shadow Fall are currently the only 2 next-gen looking games to me.
Alexious  +   171d ago
You have to consider that MGSV will be open world with Phantom Pain. If they keep this level of graphics with a world "100 times" Ground Zeroes, and perhaps even improve it, then I could be quite happy with that.
PersonMan  +   170d ago
Ummm.... Second Son is an open world game and I think it looks better than MGS GZ.
Lord_Sloth  +   170d ago
Second Son is also exclusively current gen. GZ is Cross Gen which would hold a game back. All Cross Gen games look worse than the exclusives.

They both look gorgeous.

But I think we've still got a lot of hidden stuff to see from the Phantom Pain that's coming up!
