Seven Final Fantasy romances that were not crap

"I had several nits to pick when it came to the relationship between Rinoa and Squall in Final Fantasy VIII, otherwise known as the Twilight of Final Fantasy romances.

For all the problems with FFVIII’s coupling, however, Final Fantasy as a whole is a series known for some of gaming’s most beautiful and memorable romances."

- Maxwell Coviello (Culture, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XIII, Retro)

Problem is this writer thinks ff8 romance was rubbish when I think it's the best one the whole series has crafted...

I agree. Rinoa and Squall seem to be the "go to" couple for FF fans in insult. But they are a better couple than half of this list. Vanille and Fang aren't even a romance, we don't know much about Snow and Serah before they were engaged (and Serah was crystallized for most of FFXIII), and Tifa and Cloud only work as a couple if you pursue the Tifa/Cloud options in FFVII.

I think a lot of people forget that the characters in FFVIII are still only teenagers. And teens are only just starting to date, fall in love, and understand what being in a relationship is like. So of course they're going to make dating mistakes, impulsive decisions, and have messy relationships. You're not going to be the perfect partner the first time you date someone. You're not going to be an expert on relationships when you're still in high school. Hell, most adults aren't even experts on relationships! That's what I always liked about Rinoa and Squall. Their relationship just felt....real. Like an actual high school romance.

I'm not saying Squall and Rinoa's romance is written perfectly. But I also don't think it's anywhere near as bad as these types of articles always say it is.

-Vanille and Fang? Thats a stretch would it have been awesome yea.
-Cloud and Tifa. Does it make sense yes and I could see it. I would have preferred Aerith tho(I wish she lived so bad).
-Locke and Celes I like to think they ended up together.

As for FFVIII romance I dont buy it. It Seemed so forced.
