Sequel Showdown: Bioshock vs. Bioshock Infinite

The industry is still reeling from the recent announcement that Irrational Games will cease to exist as we now know them. The majority of the staff has been let go, and the few that remain will join Ken Levine's new team with a focus on small narrative driven games. Over the past 15 plus years the studio has produced numerous critically acclaimed games and was recognized among the industry's best at creating amazingly realized game worlds and compelling storylines. With games like System Shock 2, Freedom Force, and SWAT 4 on the studio's resume, many people have different opinions about which is their favorite Irrational game, but few would argue the defining Irrational developed titles are without a doubt Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite. Let's break these two games down and determine which is Irrational's finest Bioshock game, and perhaps the studio's crowning achievement. (BioShock, BioShock: Infinite, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

How is it a 'sequel showdown' when one isn't even a sequel?

And pray tell how BioShock Infinite isn't a sequel to BioShock? Just because it's not a direct continuation doesn't mean it's not a sequel, or threequel in this case.

BioShock isn't a sequel...

He is saying Bioshock 1 is not a sequel, therefore it cannot be a sequel showdown because only Infinite is a sequel. If it were a true sequel showdown it would have to be between Bioshock 2 and Bioshock Infinite. The article isn't named all that well.

Personally, I think BioShock 2 is the best game in the series, but whatever.

When it comes to gameplay, I completely agree with you.

I really didn't find Infinite all that interesting, only got about halfway through it. Now Bioshock on the other hand...

I agree. Struggling to finish infinite. Bioshock 1 was much better.

bioshock 1 is one of my favourite games of last generation. there was no way infinite was going to live up to it in my eyes.

Bioshock 2 is the best in the series?! YUCK! The first Bioshock will always be my favorite.

Reminds me that I still need to beat both of these games.

I liked the atmosphere of Bioshock more, but the gameplay of Infinite more.

Bioshock > Bioshock 2 > Colonial Marines > Bioshock Infinite

LOL, just kidding fanboys. No but really, Infinite was bad. Its not a game I'd ever replay and nothing about it was memorable. The guns and vigors were the only good thing.
