Yesterday NeoGAF user Feep went to Valve's offices in Seattle to check out the prominent developer's virtual reality prototype, and he shared a lot of interesting detail about it.
I, the Doritos Pope believes this tech is so unbelievable, it is clearly Anti-Doradito Doritos technology here my child!
Valve is collaborating with Oculus to bring VR to the PC. They are sharing all of their progress and tech. They aren't bringing their own VR headset to market.
The Steam Boxes sounded amazing too, and then we saw them and knew better.
When the time comes, I won't know better.
I guess VR is the new 3D.
No, VR is a whole new way to play games. 3D was a useless fad. VR will be revolutionary.
You don't know how wrong you are. I've used the first dev kit version of the Rift on several occasions and even THAT was an incredible experience that instantly convinced me that VR is going to be a BIG part of gaming's future and of the future in general. The applications for VR are nearly unlimited. This guy, Feep, from Iridium Studios who used Valve's prototype VR system summed it up very well, so I'll just leave you with a quote from him. "First person to say “I remain unconvinced” is going to get a digital punch in the face. Look, just give a system like this a shot before spiraling into a pit of cynical negativity, because this is an incredible, potentially world-changing technology."
Some Steam games already support the Rift, so you know its coming soon. I cant believe how ambitious Valve is sometimes. They seem to be pulling all the right moves.
can some brave soul give us a TL;DR version?
"it definitely sounds awesome, even if a little saddening since the unit will never hit the shelves" Don't worry, every advancement Valve has made in VR will be carried over to the Oculus Rift. Low persistence is just one example.
dame pc devs have to do everything. it starts again
