False Rumor or Not, Mario Kart 8 Needs a Track Editor

Obstructed Views: There’s a rumor going around that Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U will feature not only customizable karts/bikes/hovercraft things, but also include a track editor. If that’s the case, then Nintendo might finally be wising up a little bit and listening to the rest of the world. Of course, it’s just a rumor. A rumor that has no validity. (Mario Kart 8, Nintendo, Wii U)

Why???
admiralvic  +   137d ago
Because people like options, unless it's the Xbox One Remote control, then it's a slap in the face and wrong.

Joking aside, people like options and while I don't think Mario Kart 8 needs a track editor, I couldn't see a track editor hurting the game. It would probably increase play time and many people would have a blast making new / challenging stages to play their friends on.

It would be perfect for the gamepad.

^^This

Imagine drawing the shape of the track from a birds eye view on the gamepad. Simply genius. Nintendo should really try to utilize it more often
BattleN  +   137d ago
Becouse it's a beautiful addition and will make the game and adding more bang for buck value is why!
MMOBytes  +   137d ago
If true this game will become the 2nd system seller. Just 3 more to go! Why? Mine craft craze, competition, consumer wants.
BattleN  +   137d ago
Due to nintendo's high caliber game creating skills I knew I would buy a wiiu, only problem the system has atm is lack of hardcore games but there on the way! 2014 is a good year for wiiu!
cyguration  +   137d ago
This would add TONS of replayability to the game. The one on the Wii is already highly replayable, but with a track editor the sky is the limit!

If it's like Trackmania I can die in peace.
mii-gamer  +   137d ago
I don't see it happening at launch. Perhaps, maybe as a dlc add on
admiralvic  +   137d ago
"Perhaps, maybe as a dlc add on"

No way. Nintendo tends to shy away from DLC anything, so I couldn't see them doing that. It seems far more likely that it will either be there or won't be included than being patched in or DLC.
mii-gamer  +   137d ago
Nintendo has been experimenting with dlc. NSMBU, Fire Emblem, Pikmin 3. I don't see why not
WPX  +   136d ago
It could be a free DLC add-on later on.
I'd welcome it.
I like free.
MultiConsoleGamer  +   137d ago
It's probably more likely that we will get some DLC tracks, but a track editor is a great idea. Talk about "game of forever!"
RPG_Lover  +   137d ago
The game doesnt need anything other what the developers say it does. I love backseat developers lol.

brawl had stage maker so maybe its true
Geekman  +   137d ago
It doesn't NEED it, but it'd be nice to have.
wonderfulmonkeyman  +   137d ago
Pretty much this.
The tracks seen so far are already incredible, so even without a track editor the online scene will still be healthy.
But it certainly wouldn't hurt to have one, so long as we can use the tracks in online matches with friends.
gpturbo81  +   136d ago
this is for sure gonna have online multiplayer?
wonderfulmonkeyman  +   136d ago
Yes, Turbo, it will have online multiplayer.
It would be incredibly stupid of them not to do such a thing after having it in every recent MK title so far.
Ck1x  +   137d ago
What got me the most excited about the track editor rumor was the thought of how amazing the gamepad would finally be used in a first party title! The gamepad was made for this sort of thing...
Customizing carts on the fly, designing tracks with various hazards, twists and loops and then sharing them for multiplayer matches online!
WeAreLegion  +   137d ago
Loved it on Mod Nation Racers and LBP Karting. I'd love to have it in Mario Kart. That would add so much to battle mode!!!
Summons75  +   137d ago
Pretty much my thoughts too.

If they included a track editor in mk8, then there would have to be a track editor in every MK, going forward.

Otherwise a lot of people wouldnt care to buy MK9 when they can make their own tracks on 8.

Seeing how crazy looking the tracks are in 8, im not sure if they could make an editor to being to create something special like the dev created tracks.

It just doesnt sound like Nintendo to add one in MK, tho they've done it in f zero, and maybe something else.
Ck1x  +   137d ago
As someone else said, even if Nintendo released this as a dlc thing down the line it would be amazing.
TuxedoMoon  +   137d ago
To be honest, I don't see them adding a track editor. With such little on board memory, having something like that would be a bad thing. Plus, how many people actually play on custom made stages? Is it really that big of a thing? Cause if it was, Mario Kart would've adopted it ages ago.

The option is nice, but I don't think this game needs it at all. They'd make way more money selling off tracks from past games as DLC than putting in a track editor that a very few amount of people will use.
NiteX  +   137d ago
It definitely doesn't need it, but it would be very awesome if it had it. Honestly the Nintendo tracks would be far far more popular than any user made track. It is always nice to see what people can come up with though.
FanboyKilla  +   137d ago
i would loose my mind!!! i love mario kart!!
Dan_scruggs  +   137d ago
"To be blunt, Mario Kart 8 should have this feature. If the rumor is false, like many are assuming, then Mario Kart 8 is yet again missing the mark in terms of capturing an audience and keeping them glued to their console."

Mario Kart Wii sold 35 million copies. This guy doesn't know what he is talking about.
HardcoreDaBoss  +   137d ago
do we know If it needs one? Nooo we dont because we havnt played it yet. The tracks in previous mario karts have been great.. But I would love to have a track editor and be able to download other peoples tracks.. It would be cool to run on insanely hard user created content.. but It doesnt need it in my opinion. I want IT though and many people do. I wouldnt create any tracks just download them.
R00bot  +   137d ago
It would be great to have a track editor, even if it was terrible like the stage editor in Brawl.
Speaking about Smash Bros., I wonder if they'll overhaul the editor for the new game? That'd be cool :)
Kennytaur  +   136d ago
I don't think it'll happen, and I don't want it to either. Due to the excessive detailing in the official tracks, and their fantastical designs, user-made tracks would look terrible.

I'm all for milking DLC like crazy though, for both Mario Kart and Smash. Since there's only one game per system. But it needs to be new stuff, and not things cut from the main game and relabeled as DLC.
higgins78  +   136d ago
A track editor would be a lovely option, of course, but its still going to be Nintendo's own courses (retro or new) which capture people imaginations and end up being favourites.
