Thief Interview | Eidos Montreal On Rebooting A Legend

Dealspwn's Matt Gardner recently sat down with Thief lead level designer Daniel Windfeld Schmidt and game director Nicolas Cantin to chat about how Eidos Montreal went about delivering a modern reboot of this shadowy classic series, and how the dev team hope to please fans and newcomers alike. (PC, PS3, PS4, Thief, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

These guys made DX:HR, had their hands in the new tomb raider and IMO, the new the thief game is looking so very awesome. I trust these guys when handling beloved franchises. They haven't let me down yet.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution was one of my favorite games in 2012. I still go back and play it from time to time; I have the deepest confidence that Thief will be a great stealth game.

Based on the rumors around the net this game is going to be disappointing. I hope it will do well as I run out of games for my PS4.

When does the review embargo lift? I predict an 85 metacritic average.

It's a review by a Spanish language videogame magazine called PlayMania. I speak Spanish and I read that magazine and I think they are very reliable. I usually agree with their reviews in any case.

And my translation:

The Good:
stealth,
fluid control with lots of possibilities,
aesthetic design,
sound.

The Bad:
sometimes the AI seems blind,
the pacing falls short in the last third part of the game,
load times.
————————-
Graphics: 88
The lighting is great. The character models of the common people are lacking.
Sound: 90
Fun: 92
The gameplay mechanics are engrossing, despite combat's lack of importance.
Length/Replayability: 86
Around 10 to 15 hours, depending on the play-style. There are a lot of side missions.
OVERALL: 90 out of 100
Garret returns to thieving in full form.

They also gave Castlevania Lords of Shadows 2 a 95 out of 100 (for all the naysayers of that game).
