3DS Or 3DS XL , Making The Jump

XL for sure, it's a huge improvement in screen size and ergonomics.

I just wish it had the sound of the original. The XL is noticeably muted (gimped) in the audio dept. if you are a headphone gamer, no worries, but I do wish I could have both the large screen AND usable audio.

Yeah, I just got myself a 3DS XL a few days ago, along with Bravely Default (Terrific game btw) but I wished the internal speakers on the 3DS XL was a lot louder.

It is fine if it is completely quiet around, but any noise at all and the speakers are like not even on lol.
