Top 7 Video Game Soundtracks

Video Games are one of, if not the most, diverse entertainment mediums out there. There are so many factors that go into making a game successful. There’s the physics engine, graphics, art style, writing, gameplay mechanics and sound design. With all of these factors it’s easy to forget about just how important the soundtrack is in a game.

The sound design gives a player a level of feedback for their actions that graphics can’t do on its own. In order for a game to be immersive the soundtrack needs to be almost perfect and fit with the graphics and art style or players won’t get sucked in. The top 7 soundtracks listed here isn’t just for the music but also the voice acting (if applicable), the sound effects and the ambient sounds used in making a game feel whole.

Yeah, I completely disagree with this list, not that any of these are bad but not even touching the frame of being the best

7 ? only 7 ?

There is literally like 300+ good video game soundtracks.

100 + of those are borderline great.

To have a list of only 7 is beyond lazy.

What's next, Top 2 colors of all time ?

There are too many to choose from. Pretty much every single Nobuo Uematsu soundtrack has been really great. So Final Fantasy has to be on a list like that imo. I'd probably choose FFVIII however all of them have been really good.

Zelda games have really great music as well. More recently I'd say The Last of Us and Ni no Kuni had amazing scores.

And then there are some old school soundtracks that just mean a lot to me personally cause the human brain tends to link music to memories. I'd say Ecco and Shadow of the Beast games would be some of the most important of my childhood.

But like I said above there are too many to choose from.

Wip3out series (Cold Storage and various artists)
Splinter Cell and Hitman (Jesper Kid and Amon Tobin)
Max Payne 3 (Health)

The ones that immediately spring to mind..I'd have to think about others.
