“Putin Gay Dress Up” Makes a Political Statement

Life in Russia came under a global scrutiny as human rights, especially those of the LGBT community, increased in exposure. Sochi mayor Anatoly Pakhomov claims that no gay people live in his town (gasp, they do), and Russian President Vladimir Putin famously said that gays will be safe as long as they “leave kids alone“.

Anything that humiliates and degrades this man is welcomed by me. Given his ego is so monstrously inflated, I'm sure all of the internet mocking him is making him furious by this stage.

jordan84453714d ago

As a Westerner, I agree with Putin and his policies, as is my Democratic right. And now, I won't be playing this 'game', I don't enjoy dressing up men as women.

Edsword3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

I don't agree with most of what Putin does and I believe in freedom of speech. But I have to admit, the propoganda in this country has gotten out of hand. The thing is the polotical party that fights for "rights" are usually the ones caught calling them degrading names. Do you know why that is? Because they see them as their voting surf-tons. The only reason the whole gay rights thing is so big right now is because the progressives needed new victims to pretend they are fighting for. Just saying.

I don't care if I lose bubbles, this country is filled to the brim with ridiculous charges of victimization.

Bigpappy3714d ago

Really? You believe that certain groups of people should be told that they can not live their lives as they see fit? If they protest these restrictions, they are just crying as victims? Wow, sounds like you are one of those very privileged and have access to your guns and ropes.

TheDevKit3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

Yeah, parleying with the ideas of your political party isn't anything new, nor does it make the idea wrong.

But I'm not going to try and limit someone's civil liberties, regardless of which political faction demands so.

Edsword3714d ago

If you call growing up dirt poor very privileged. Yes I do own guns thank you. Not sure what you are insinuating with the ropes though. Sure I have access to some, but I usually use it to secure a load. You always assume because people don't agree with your point of view that we are hateful. I would bet a lot that you are a more hateful person than I am.

M83_3714d ago

I've yet to hear a reason to restrict gay rights that wasn't completely and utterly irrational and nonsensical. Not one reason.

ShaunCameron3713d ago

Agreed. This is what 50+ years of Liberal/Marxist control and influence will do to a society.

agonism3713d ago (Edited 3713d ago )

I guess it's degrading if you're heavily invested in heteronormativity, but I know what the first poster meant.

Anyway, lots of resentiment in this article. While there are plenty of radicals active in the lgbt community that would likely agree in a critique of the Democratic party's recuperative practices through its rhetoric to appeal to marginalized people to augment its constituency, it's from an entirely different perspective than the one above. To say that people anywhere still don't attach stigmatization and shame, in which certain circumstances often culminates in some sort of violence, to people of alternative sexualities or gender identities, is like Hicken said ignoring social reality at large because of your already preconcieved notions, and if I may say it although I'm not an identity politician, privilege in never having to experience it.

No offense to the more reasonable ones out there who haven't put a lot of consideration into alternatives to the state-form, but I feel that some of those who hide behind the constitution to justify their aggressions, a 200 some year old document written by semi-aristocratic, slave owning, powdered wigs as if they were demi-gods are straight up cowards. I know some like to idealize the rebellion against the British monarchy and vague notions of liberty, but the States from back to its origins with the colonies from there on has never been the beacon of freedom and purity that some like to imagine it as.

And sure, the US is great to have on your side when your country's policies aligns with foreign occupations, plundering of resources, indiscriminate slaughter, installing fascistic puppet regimes to ensure the stability of this plundering, displacing indigenous populations, and even financially supported genocide. That's not to say that in order to oppose imperialism you have to identify with oppressive regimes, which isn't the case whatsoever. This also applies to military intervention, if you're passionate about some perceived injustice that's taking place in some other region you can always travel there and join some type of international brigade.

Also, I'm no fan of mainstream Russian politics, from the Czar to the republic to the dictatorship of the Bolsheviks to the neo-liberals and oligarchs currently entrenched there, but if the US were ever to intervene there it would be the inception of WW3, with potentionally millions of deaths that can be attributed mostly to people becoming victims to or enforcers of competing power interests and even possibly nuclear warfare. Solidarity doesn't have to equate to support for interventionism, which most often will actually detract from any real semblance of it.

Personally, like many others I'm tired of this charade of electoral politics and think that political, economic and ethical incompabilities should be taken to the streets at whatever degree of intensity necessary to elaborate freedom and life against forces of reaction. And to clarify, I'm not a Marxist but I do know some cool people influenced by the libertarian outgrowth of his thought, which I do admit having also been influenced by, especially in the realm of political economy. Even Foucault was influenced by Marx, however much some of his radical conceptions and practices have been diluted by liberals.

Why do Americans always feel the need to shove our opinions, values and beliefs down everyone's throats, including our own? I understand Putin is an ass, but damn! People, we or I don't give a damn what religion you are, your sexuality, your race...be who you want to be and shut the f up about it!

M83_3714d ago

Except that's not true. Many people are like you and don't care about people's sexuality or race or religion, and rightfully so, but there are many out there who still do.

Juiceid3714d ago

What's not true? If you were referring to the point of Americans being so damn mouthy that kind of validates my point. If it is a small amount of people, they sure a loud damn bunch!

M83_3714d ago

That part where you said people don't care about sexuality, race and religion. There are still many out there who, for reasons unknown, can have huge irrational issues with these things -in regards to sexuality Putin would be one of these people.

KonsoruMasuta3714d ago

The people who made this are from Amsterdam.

Juiceid3714d ago

Fine, but still. Opinions are like a@@holes, we all have them!

Hicken3714d ago

If people were allowed to just "be who you want to be," then there'd be no need to say anything about it.

But that's not the case, and that HAS to be evident to you.

I can't just BE black because, especially here in the South, there are expectations of what that means. I have to be ghetto, and uneducated, and a drug dealer, and a troublemaker. I am none of those things, but I've been treated that way by total strangers because that's what it means to have my skin color and hair texture. To some, I am inferior, not quite fit to be called human. And while such mentalities are far from the norm now, they DO pop their ignorant little heads up every now and again, making life difficult.

How lucky I am that the government under which I live no longer supports such things. But until that was the case- until, for the most part, people like me could "be who we wanted to be"- we had to do a helluva lot of not shutting up. There were boycotts and sit-ins, marches and riots; in response, there were hoses and dogs, crosses burning in the preacher's yard, and hangings. It wasn't simple, nor was it easy.

Right now, there's a new movement for equality going on. Fortunately, we Americans have largely moved past using violence to keep certain elements of our society oppressed, but the oppression and discrimination still exists. That seems to be, slowly, changing.

It's far worse in a place like Russia, though. And the only way it'll change is if- like the people before me had to do- someone stands up and talks about it.

Now, it won't get to be THAT bad, but consider this as an example: would World War II have transpired if the international community had spoken up early on? If we, who had just subjugated this nation for being overly aggressive, had stood up and said, "Hey, that's too much," would so many millions have lost their lives a few years later? Can you imagine how different the world would be, if those of us watching had, instead, ACTED?

We're watching Russia right now; will we continue to do so, or will we ACT? And it doesn't have to be military intervention of any sort; that's not necessary all the time, anymore. It's still possible to put enough pressure on them to get them to change.

Things like this little protest can do that. (Which, by the way, has nothing to do with America, but since that's the path you chose, it's the path we're gonna take, here.)

I'd like it if we didn't have to go "sticking our noses" in other people's affairs all the time. I have too many friends and family in the military for that to be something I want. But I'd like it even more if no more crap like Rwanda happened because we just sat there. So I'm okay with us getting involved with stuff all the time, even if it makes us hated. Because, even though we aren't what we used to be, there's still nobody in the world you'd rather have on your side than the US, and everybody in the world knows that. And as long as nobody else is willing to step up, we might as well keep at it.

Thank you! So beautifully put, Hicken!

ger23963714d ago

How exactly are Americans "shoving our opinions down peoples throats"?

TheDevKit3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

This is a trait human nature, and it's not exclusive to the U.S.

ShaunCameron3713d ago

They think they're above it all and know what's best for everyone else even when they barely know what's best for themselves and those ideas are turning their own society into crap in the name of democracy. According to them, everyone else is just too stupid to realize and appreciate their benevolent wisdom.

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5070d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905069d ago (Edited 5069d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5070d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Jack-Pyro5070d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495069d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5069d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5069d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
