Zenimax Online Studios released today a new gameplay video of the upcoming MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online, set for release in April 4th for PC and Mac and in June for PS4 and Xbox One.
During a panel at GDC 2024, Elder Scrolls Online Game Director Matt Firor noted that the MMO has generated a staggering amount of player spending over its decade of operation—almost $2 billion.
Who says a dud game can't have a video game comeback?
Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky have to be up there. We're lucky and cursed, equally, to have games that can be updated now. For folks old enough to remember the Sega/SNES into PS1 and even 2 eras, if a game came out that was half baked (*cough*Angel of Darkness*cough*) that was it, no redemption. At the same time, having the option for updates shouldn't be an excuse for half assing games.
The Elder Scrolls Online has accumulated over 24 million players over the years. The RPG hit the milestone on its 10th anniversary.
Looks really great & I can't wait for this one to go live.
Unfortunately, we're being ignored when asking for a beta testing date for console at this stage (Xbox one is where I'll be playing it), but I'm eager as to give this game a go.
The PC testers though have a lot of positive praise for this release & these clips make me want to play it more.
Bring it on!
I was skeptical at first (pre-NDA lift). The closed betas I was in left a bad taste in my mouth but I never got over level 5 (not a fair outlook on an MMO.) Since the NDA has lifted, reading comprehensive legacy beta tester impressions, watched tons of videos, I have done a complete 180 on this game!
This is one of the first times that I have seen an NDA lifted providing mostly POSITIVE results/impressions from the legacy closed beta players (this is admittedly maybe lack of remembering.. just honestly don't remember).
The AvAvA w/scrolls (relics for those DAoC people like myself) and emperor crowing, crafting system, Level 50+/50++ (Veteran Rank) system, lycanthropy (werewolf)/vampirism system with abilities, etc, this game is going to have so much to offer!
Now, I know that the initial cost + 15/month seems steep, but this is only a new problem due the crappy F2P system that so many games do now (people end up spending MORE on buying content/vanity). People forget that this is not new. WoW/EQ/DAoC/EQ2/EvE/etc initially cost $60 + 15/month, plus $30-50 per expansion. In reality, $.50 a day is NOT that much for entertainment. Most AAA games cost roughly $60 on purchase and a lot of those games do not even provide two months of content and THEN they shove DLC down your throat.
If you feel that the game doesn't deserve the monthly payment, well that's one thing that is a "too each their own." But to say, as I've seen a lot around here, that 15/month is a ripoff but not really talking about the quality, well you just maybe have never experienced how immersive MMO worlds can get.
This is just some food for thought. You are NOT an "idiot" or "cheapa@@" for NOT choosing to play. In the end, it's your money and enjoy how YOU spend it! :)
Hope to see you in ESO!
"extensive glimpse" lol
