'Rayman Legends' Xbox One vs. PS4: 'Can’t tell the difference,' says Ubisoft

A question people always want answered when it comes to a game that hits the Xbox One and PS4, is what are the differences between the two versions of the game?

Examiner.com wanted to know the same about Rayman Legends and had the chance to catch up with Rayman Legends' lead game designer Emile Morel and he talked to us about the differences, or lack thereof, between the two versions as well as what it has been like working on the PS4 and Xbox One. (PS4, Rayman Legends, Ubisoft, Xbox One)

Seeing as it's 1080/60 and 2D across the board, I doubt you could tell much difference on anything! Difference comes down to gameplay with this game, and the Wii U version arguably trumps all other versions in that department by including 2nd screen asymmetric abilities.
MaxwellBuddha  +   722d ago
Yep.
TomShoe  +   722d ago
Not surprising, it's not exactly a graphically demanding game.
curtis92  +   722d ago
how is looking down at another screen benefiting anything or anyone?
Smashbro29  +   722d ago
As someone who played the WiiU version, that Murphy crap makes it worse.
Concertoine  +   721d ago
Murphy crap is in all versions, its just a lot more natural on vita and wii u.
Smashbro29  +   721d ago
Let me reiterate. The touch screen gamepad stuff was worse because it wasn't as much fun as running and jumping and because in single player the AI you're meant to lead around is an idiot.

What an incredibly daft question to ask to a developer when it is clearly known that a game like this is not meant to push hardware. It's like they're trying to force some "equal" footing regardless of the game - which means, in essence, the WiiU is just as good as the PS4/X1 because they all run a the same fidelity.
The_Infected  +   722d ago
It's not like it's a demanding game although it looks good it's still a side scroller. More demanding games will struggle in comparison to PS4. I'd say another better looking game on PS4 will be Watch Dogs.

But the differences are so minor they can hardly be considered advantages and sometimes the Xbox One version looks better

You are so desperate it hurts to read your comments.. So these apparent marginal differences that favour Xbone on here matter now, huh?

I guess multiple games being 1080P on PS4 and 720p on XBone didn't matter though, huh?

Last gen the 360/PS3 differences were smaller, but 360 owners sure thought those were advantages. Now there are more noticeable advantages for PS4, and it apparently doesn't matter anymore. How strange.
Boody-Bandit  +   722d ago
"and it apparently doesn't matter anymore"

My head hasn't stopped spinning since it was made known the PS4 is more powerful and it was as if the PS3 / 360 generation of minuscule differences never happened. But look, it has a few more blades of grass! The 360 FTW! SMH

On topic:
I would hope a game like this would run the same on both consoles. A 2d side scrolling isn't exactly a taxing game. Although something tells me that Ubisoft and the author of this article already knows that.

Your links are bad and you should feel bad.

It's not like whatever is running on PS4/X1 right now would not be running on PS360. It's almost a flash game
mzupeman  +   722d ago
A cartoony art style doesn't mean this is as simplistic as a flash game. The ignorance you're showing here... oye.

Can't tell the difference with WiiU ,Xbox 360 and PS3 either,..

lol It is a 2d sprite platformer,.. Vita's version is probably the best looking of them all,.. because of Oled,.. and has all the touch crap (and zoom) built in (like WiiU version)

Lol, exactly. It is 1080p x 60fps on last gen consoles also. It's a very lightweight advanced 2D engine that can run smoothly on weaker mobile platforms even. So, it's pretty corny for this article to even exist. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Minecraft on PS4 vs Xbone either. That doesn't mean anything. Wait until a game like Destiny or Watch Dogs comes out, and it'll be right back to the real deal of Xbone lagging far behind and having to sacrifice resolution and fps just to survive.
Paulie_gualtieri  +   722d ago
Well that does't say much of Rayman legends, now does it?
cyphertech  +   722d ago
It took forever before people stopped caring about 360 and ps3 differences. I can't believe we gotta deal with this nonsense for 4 more years
Hicken  +   722d ago
Who stopped caring? Xbox fans were making a big deal the whole time. Sony fans especially started responding as multiplats got better on PS3 near the end of the gen, but PS3 exclusives were always talked about.

That isn't gonna change, though Xbox fans would certainly like for it to do just that this time around.
cyphertech  +   722d ago
I get that the difference in graphics matters just so we can get a general consensus on which console is more powerful, got it. But come on rayman? RAYMAN? I've seen comparison screens that were different in other games, but I... just couldn't make myself care. I saw the difference but it honestly didn't matter. The resolution thing matters and I get that, but eh... even that...
RiPPn  +   722d ago
The only reason people stopped talking about it is because there became parity between the 2 platforms. But in the beginning when the 360 outshined the PS3 in multiplats thats all you heard about. Roles are reversed but this time parity will only be reached in less demanding games like Rayman.
GraveLord  +   722d ago
I've heard that before! Microsoft has some sort of NDA where developers aren't allowed to say Xbox One version looks worse.

With that being said, this game isn't pushing many pixels.
PersonMan  +   722d ago
I'm failing to see how the next gen version is even going to look different from the PS3 and 360 versions.
jay2  +   722d ago
That's how games should be this gen, but they won't be due to a £200 camera. Only games like this will be equal.
tuglu_pati  +   722d ago
indeed
Williamson  +   722d ago
I couldnt tell the difference between the vita and ps3 version, so this isnt a shocker to me.
DanDan7  +   722d ago
F*ck Micro$oft's "Parity Policy" & sellout Developers.
KontryBoy706  +   722d ago
OF COURSE YOU CAN'T LOL. It's Rayman Legends lol
ziggurcat  +   722d ago
considering the game's artistic direction, that doesn't surprise me one bit.
