What is VR?

VRFocus Writes: "There are two ways we can define Virtual Reality (VR) right now. One is the realistic, scientific description of the various means and methods that power the technology. But this tech is all about slipping into new worlds; do we really want to talk about the science behind it? The other is to paint a picture in your mind of what this enticing new platform could have in store for videogames and beyond in the next few years. I’ll go with that."

Is Vr the new "in thing" Just like 3d tvs were for awhile?

Theres no doubt in my mind that the Rift makes giant leaps when it comes to immersion, personally i love my test version and i will buy retail edition on day 1. But will it take off? That remains to be seen, i certainly hope so!

djplonker3720d ago

Any idea what the retail price is going to be?

I hope that it isnt like 3dtvs pricewise because you were talking thousands more for a 3d tv to begin with :/

@djplonker

That's going to be the main thing isn't it, the price, I think they should sell it cheap for a short while to get the ball rolling, the more people that own one while its new and hot, the more people will be spreading the word of mouth about how awesome it is.

Alternatively they could do a huge push when it comes to actually showing it off, take it to game shows and set up demo versions of the final product in stores etc.

It's very similar to the 3DS in the sense that you have to play it for yourself to experience the effect, no youtube video or screenshot will do this.

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

I would say it does. The combat is a bit shit for todays standards but everything else is great.

It's worth a play through today.

64 bit support is not the same as a next gen upgrade. 64 bit has been used for like 12-15 years now?

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.
