FRONTBURNR: 29 year old Dong Nguyen never asked for this. The Vietnamese creator of the Cinderella hit Flappy Bird had no idea that his simple little game would become the hottest mobile game in the world for a few short days. He’d made games before, and they’d done alright. He’d added mobile ads to this game because that is what the Japanese normally do for a free game. If I had to guess, I’d bet he was rather excited initially by the overnight success of his app. The game, which had initially released in 2013, had a sudden spike in popularity. Then, due to a clash of culture, internet anonymity, and unwanted attention, it all came crashing down.
