This month's EDGE review scores include Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 and Donkey Kong.
octodad scores more than LoS2? what a joke, the game needs to be broken for that to happen. and where's the thief score.
Someone must haven stolen Thief's score, HAHAHHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHA :---()
Nice stealth post ...
I have a sneaking suspicion your right...
Garrett!!! *shakes fist*
4 for LoS2? The first one was incredible. What happened?
@NukaCola Incredible? No. I enjoyed it but, no.
LOL @ Agent! Seriously though, scores are exclusive to the genre and context of the game. Is Nidhogg objectively better than CLoS2? No, but Nidhogg's bringing something crazy and new to couch multiplayer and it's done in an amazing way. It's possible that the reviewer just felt that it didn't live up even to its predecessor, or to other games within its genre or even series - this title still bears the name Castlevania, which has about 9 titles which were more enjoyable to play than LoS for me. Octodad's kinda meant to be nigh unplayable, and it's just plain weird. Within its genre of ... Idunno, "weird games," maybe alongside QWOP and Noby Noby Boy, it's probably just meh, so a 5.
Personally I am looking forward to octodad more then lords of shadow two
4 out of 10 for LoS 2 ?! great. well deserved ! i played the demo, what a shitty Castlevania ! the first one was way better !
Using its name for this game is more offensive to the franchise than the expletive. It is the Resident Evil 6 of the Castlevania series. Yes, that bad.
"It is the Resident Evil 6 of the Castlevania series." Agreed, what a great example !
glad I canceled my preorder.. I had my doubts. The first one was great.
Awful dialogue throwbacks to a good Castlevania game and idiotic, repetitive camera cues in the demo were enough to convince me that anything I was excited for in LoS2 was just that it looked better. Farewell, Mercury Steam! Don't let the door hit you on the way out!
Woah that's bad. Isn't that in broken territory? Games only seem to score that low these days when they are fundamentally broken
Or completely insipid? It works well technically (in the programming aspect). All the rest seems bad or so-so. (please not that this is only my opinion, I have to intention to state this as a #fact) Also we know that Edge is usually very harsh in their reviews and scores. Well, I think their system is actually better than most, since they don't rate bad/mediocre games a 7 only to backslash from fans and companies. From the demo, I wouldn't say the game is bad. But it definitely seems really mediocre and almost coward in every sense to me. Strangely, I still have hope that, when the exploration and leveling are available, the game can get better.
Dammm.... a 4 is quite low. Is the game that bad ?
I didn't like the first one. I played it on PS3 and it had really bad frame rate issues. Not sure if it was just me but i had a bad time with it. Castlevania has so much potential though.
The demo was terrible. It actually had at least three sections where you have to pause on a steel bolt (3 times a section) so the enemy can shoot to destroy it. THREE! I exited the game and deleted it right there. Not to mention the absolutely horrid platforming sections.
Really enjoyed the first Castlevania LOS, hope the second one is on par, 4 doesn't sound promising, but I have disagreed with Edge before.
A low score from Edge is often an endorsement. They are no more correct than Michael Pachter and when they are on the money, like Pachter it is simply an accident.
I really don't see it like that. Games that get great scores from them are always really good games. For all other reviews from them, I judge on my own, they gave really low scores to games I love.
You misunderstand. No where did I say that games that get great scores from them are not good, at least most of the time. I am saying that games to which they award bad scores are often good.
take it with a grain of salt.. plenty of games with a 9 meta have garnered a 7 from edge. If its half as good as DKCR it will still be a great game.
I think we should start a conversation about rating indie games. I like indie games and Nidhogg is a lot of fun - but a 9? Indie games should be rated differently imo.
They are, that's why it got a 9.
They are rated differently, that's the problem. ^lol :)
No they really shouldn't be rated differently. Nidhogg does one thing, and it does it well -- LoS 2 sounds like it's trying to do too much at once and collapses in on itself. Stealth, exploration, God of War style combat -- it all just leads to a bloated, unsatisfying game.
Wow LoS is getting bad scores all over the place. i didn't expect it to be this bad.
If you play the demo, you'll understand. A friend asked me about the demo and I had lots of complaints: First of all, shouldn't have this name. Think about everything that defines Castlevania. You can't see it there. On the other side, everything that defines God of War is there, expect for the fixed camera. Probably there's exploration in the final product, but the demo is 100% linear. Then it tries too hard to be GoW and sometimes DmC, both on gameplay and over the top cutscenes. The hits have no weight, the enemies were always the same. The music, then, ouch, probably the worst and most disconnected to the game I've ever heard. Sounds like a Japanese bullet hell hysteria theme. Finally, the game feels completely insipid. And also repetitive. Through all demo you're fighting the two foes and when you find a boss/sub boss, man, that was a drag. Basically you had to do the same thing about 9 times to move on. Only later I realized that the only good thing I could say about the demo is that you can skip the GoW-based QTEs. I know it is only a demo, but reviews are confirming the game is simply bad. Inb4 "Wah, this game rocks!", try to agree with this after trying the demo.
Totally agree. Just in the short demo the repetitiveness and unimaginative game design was enough to make me delete the demo even before finishing it. Plus the terrible platforming. The section where you have to climb up to get to the 3 bolts is a prime example. There's a clear path upwards but you can't make him go up higher than halfway. You have to make him move horizontally first before going up again. Why?
Exactly! They inherited even the worst parts of God of War games (that awful platforming to hide the next area loading). Seriously, if they can't do something natural as in Dead Space (doors and trains) or Mass Effect (double doors), they'd better put loading times there instead of torturing us with horrible platforming.
