... Uh no. Grinding is as important in this game as it was in every final fantasy before. Because monsters don't give exp doesn't mean they don't make you stronger. There is the canvas of prayer sidequests first, like the author says in the article, but even more importantly, it's by fighting monsters that you'll get duplicate drops of your abilities and be able to fuse them and make them much, much stronger. There's really no other way.
