Seems reasonable.

I would expect a bigger gap between the PS4 and xbone though.

The PS4 is a much more attractive console. Once most of the core xbox faithful have bought their xbone I believe sales will drop.

Of course most people these days it seems aren't smart and prudent enough to do their research when buying an expensive product, so the gap could be even smaller.

There's plenty of good reason's to get an xbone over a PS4, but if 3 million people can buy a more expensive console with weaker hardware by a company that drops core support early and fought fiercely to try to take away their basic consumer rights, then anything's possible.

ape0071285d ago (Edited 1285d ago )

me too, i expect the gap to be bigger but we all know MS isn't gonna keep the system at 500$ forever

a 100$ cheaper bit more powerful ps4 is a strong valid argument against MS and the xbox one, they're not gonna stand there and let sony win that easy

MS got a golden chance of getting back head to head in numbers with sony, i mean they have 3 freaking giant explosive exclusives, big heavy hitters

1- Halo 5
2- Gears of War 4
3- Titanfall

the least selling one of those will break 7 millions sales mark easily, u know their marketing

I expect them to make a kinectless Xbox one when those 3 games arrive and just watch sales roar like crazy and will equal ps4

Hocking1285d ago

"MS got a golden chance of getting back head to head in numbers with sony"

Unless the diehard Xbox fans in the US start buying 3,4,5 or more duplicate consoles like they did due to the RRoD fiasco and other ridiculous hardware problems the 360 had, Microsoft isn't getting near Sony installed base numbers ever.

ape0071285d ago (Edited 1285d ago )

^^^^^^^^^

sir you haven't addressed my reasons for that argument

Rig_Master1284d ago (Edited 1284d ago )

Yeah, 9 million Xbox One's in the first year? Not going to happen.

The RRoD plagued Xbox 360 couldn't sell 9 million consoles in its first year and it was 200 dollars cheaper than the PS3. It only sold some 8.5 million at the one year mark.

Investors are calling for the new Microsoft CEO to dump all of Steve Ballmer's failed products like the Xbox, Bing, Windows Phone, etc. To think that Microsoft is going to slash the price of the Xbox One just to lessen the amount it loses to the PS4 this gen is delusional.

A downgraded PC port(Titanfall) and the same old Halo/Gears of War isn't going to save the Xbox One.

Hopefully the new MS CEO does dump the Xbox fiasco and returns the focus back to the PC market. Microsoft has let the PC game market flounder for years while they've wasted time losing badly in the console market that they obviously have no competence to compete in.

After 14 years and Microsoft being 0-3 in the console market it is time to knife the baby and move on.

reaperofsouls1284d ago

@ape007

Sony have their own heavy hitters as well you know.

Though i agree dropping kinect will drive sales

Hocking1284d ago (Edited 1284d ago )

6-7 million is most likely the most Microsoft will sell in the first year.

The Xbox One is going to have to survive off of just the US for sales this gen. Microsoft is giving up on Japan - although they are keeping a token presence to avoid the PR humiliation of having to admit failure there. The PS4 is outselling the Xbox One 2-1 in Europe. That PS4 domination is only going to get larger when PS4 stock can keep up with demand.

The Xbox 360 came in last place despite:

1. Being rushed out the door a year early to pad out its installed base numbers. A year and a half in Europe.

2. 200 dollars cheaper than the PS3. Which still outsold it every single year in worldwide sales.

3. The RRoD and other hardware problems causing Xbox 360 owners to buy new model after new model with each one promising to finally 'fix' the absurd reliability problems the poorly designed 360 suffered from leading to tens of millions of duplicate 360 consoles inflating the installed base numbers.

The failure of the Xbox One shouldn't come as a shock to anyone. The Xbox base is some 25-35 million or so mostly US fans most of whom bought 4-5 duplicate Xbox 360 consoles last gen.

Unreal011284d ago

Agree with above ^

Ape, you're completely oblivious to the fact that Sony have their own heavy hitters. If those "freaking giant explosive exclusives"(LOL), a cheaper price and a year head start didn't allow the 360 to beat the PS3 last gen, how on earth do you think they'll accomplish that this time? It's pretty obvious Sony will be leading this gen, from start to finish. However, that doesn't mean the Xbox One is a bad piece of hardware.

thereapersson1284d ago (Edited 1284d ago )

Ape, those games are big, no doubt. However, Sony has many of their own hotly-anticipated titles due out this year, a few of which are coming out in the next 6 months. I still think that unless Microsoft does something about their price disadvantage, they will continue to be at a loss against Sony's PS4 momentum this generation. Pricing is key with consumers, even in markets that deal in high-priced commodities.

Many people are waiting to buy the One when it drops in price - myself included - since we all recognize it provides a great entertainment environment. However, most people really do not want to be forced to buy into the Kinect experience without being given the option to try it first, and Kinect is the reason why the price is higher than the PS4. If Microsoft would just swallow their pride and make it optional again, as they did with the 360, they'd have a better chance at competing directly with the PS4 in sales.

Gamer19821284d ago (Edited 1284d ago )

Only titanfall out this year though. Even if both consoles were simlar priced I think Xbone would struggle somewhat thanks to PS having a bigger market share (last generation proved this with ps3 catching up even being the more expensive console)and also being more powerful. Only way Ms could catch up now is drop it LOWER than the PS4 but that's never gonna happen now..

ape0071284d ago (Edited 1284d ago )

^^^^^^

yes sony will have thier heavy hitters but i emphasized on these xbox one games because i expect them sell more

they fit perfectly in what sells these days, great shooters, great gameplay and ONLINE yes online

infamous and the order are great games but they have no online component(don't get me wrong, their quality is top notch

thereapersson1284d ago (Edited 1284d ago )

Ape...

Look man, you read what you want, but the bottom line is that no matter what the One does, at $100 dollars more, the One is at an immediate, tangible disadvantage when put up against the PS4. It's not that it's a bad system in any real sense of the word. It's that giant elephant in the room: the price tag.

The second the Xbox One is as cheap as the PS4, it will start selling much better. Sony has set the sweet spot for next gen pricing - cheaper than a comparable PC setup for low-overhead gaming - so it's up to Microsoft to match Sony at their game. They (Microsoft) had it nailed at the beginning of last generation, so it makes you wonder why things have turned on their head.

By the way, none of those Sony games you listed have needed to rely on multiplayer to sell well.

Hocking1284d ago

"They (Microsoft) had it nailed at the beginning of last generation, so it makes you wonder why things have turned on their head."

The Xbox 360 got outsold by the PS3 every single year on the market right from the start even while being 200 dollars cheaper.

So, no, they most certainly didn't nail it at the start of last gen.

thereapersson1284d ago

Hocking, they released first and were the cheaper system. They allowed themselves to grow into the market to become the dominant system in most people's homes for the early part of last gen. Yes, the PS3 had more worldwide sales, but the impact of the 360 at launch was pretty significant. Halo 3 and Gears of War pretty much put the 360 at the forefront of competitive gaming.

cyber_daemonx1284d ago

@ape. Some people, actually quite a lot actually *gasp* prefer single player campaigns in games. Some people actually aren't keen on online multiplayer dudebro shooters. That's the problem with xbone: Halo, Forza, Gears ad infinitum/nauseum and now Titanfall which isn't even a true exclusive and will be on PS at some point anyhow.

The only thing thats gonna help xbone is either drop kinect or price/both, and by that time it will be too late as we all know PS4 will be dominating by then.

WrAiTh Sp3cTr31284d ago

Good news for Sony makes people ignore the source the info comes from, none other than Michael Pachter. Remember any other thing he talks about is pure bull but let him mention some good news about sony and n4g is like "He's right about this don't you think? Oh yeah, his thoughts are my thoughts exactly." It's lame and kinda dysfunctional.

truefan11284d ago

@ape007 you spoke truth, but these ps4 fans don't want truth. Kinect Sports 1 outsold both Infamous games combined and they call that a heavy hitter. I don't know how many XB1's will sell this year, but I know the XB1 will sell well. All the hardcore games have bought their consoles, its now the casual gamers time to purchase consoles, and the XB1 is more attractive to casual games because of Kinect, hence the reason MSFT bundled kinect with every console. Also imagine if every XB1 has nfl ticket next fall, that alone will sell a lot of units in the US, the way ps3 sold a lot because of the blu ray player. Not to mention holiday season 2014, with Halo 2 or 5 coming out. At the end of the day it comes down to games, and XB1 is owning ps4 in the games department, better launch and better 2014 lineup.

dcbronco1284d ago

Rig_Master, you sound like you're making a comment based on business. But it's pretty obvious you don't exactly understand how the console business works. Or the market. Those calling for Xbox being dumped are ignorant of gaming or people trying to drive or keep the price of MS stock down to short sell. Xbox makes huge profits. Look into how the console market works and figure it out for yourself. Only a fool believes MS should sell Xbox.

"hardware by a company that drops core support early"

Yes, Microsoft dropped their support early for the Xbox, but I find comments like this quite funny.

They are comments made essentially by Sony fanboys that completely forgot how Sony doped support for the original PSP, and are dropping support at this moment for the PSP Vita and PS3. What exclusive games worth mentioning does Sony have, made by Sony studios, for the Vita and PS3 in 2014 and beyond ? If it wasn't for 3rd party games, i would have sold my PS3 by now.

Fanboys are really quite blind... and that goes for every fanboy from any platform. They see what they only want to see.

Serg1284d ago

You know, this has got to be the dumbest thing I read all week.

I can think of 6 exclusive games off the top of my head, 5 of which are first party, in 2013 that Sony released for the PS3 and I am sure I am forgetting some (Ni No Kuni, God of War: Ascension, The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, Gran Turismo 6, Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus). This was the 7th year of the PS3. 2 of them entirely new IP's, again 7th year. Microsoft released less games and only sequels in the last 3 years than Sony released in 2013 (Gears of War 3, Gears of War: Judgement, Halo 4, Forza 4, Halo: Reach).

Microsoft dropped the first Xbox like a rock, the 360 has been on multiplatform lifesupport since 2010 but yeah let's brush historic trends aside because everything is oh so different now.

Your last sentence sums up your ignorant rant quite well.

chrisarsenalsavart1284d ago

Are you for real dude?
You must be coming from a dimension where the last 19 years of gaming did not exist.

fermcr1284d ago (Edited 1284d ago )

@Serg
Seriously !!! Witch part you didn't understand from "2014 and beyond" ?

come_bom's right... i don't think Sony have any 1st party games announced (until now) on the PS3 and Vita for 2014.

In 2014, at least until E3, there are no 1st party game (worth mentioning) for the PS3 or Vita. Let's see if Sony mentions a few PS3 or Vita games in E3.

Serg1284d ago

@fermcr

So what? They supported the PS3 for 7 entire years, a few things are probably still to come from their in house studios. And if not, it's basically going to be the same situation as the 360 was in the last 3 years, without the next generation to even look forward to.

You say Sony needs to announce things for the PS3 but completely leave out Microsoft and 360 out of the discussion, which was the original topic of discussion in the first place.

PS Vita has recently picked up some good news whereas the PSP almost never had any. Sony has released some great games for the PSP, Motorstorm: Arctic Edge and 2 God of War games to name a few. Also, it's a freaking handheld, why are you even including the PSP and the Vita in this discussion.

So instead of bashing Sony for not announcing new things for an 8 year old console, why don't you turn your attention to the real culprit, who released one hand full of games in the last 3 years, again, less than Sony released last year.

Congrats on having completely irrelevant and yet unoriginal opinions. Is it you feel you are educating these ignorant, unwashed masses?

frostypants1284d ago (Edited 1284d ago )

The gap will definitely be between 1.5x and 2x PS4 to One. All the numbers are trending that direction.

indyman771284d ago (Edited 1284d ago )

@jessupj, WELLSAID bubble up. I can't believe people are disagreeing with you. They are actually proving your point. They themselves don't know it has a less powerful hardware, and that Microsoft fought for not a few months but 3 solid years trying convince the public, and publishers, and retailers to take away your rights. Heck they even thought they had Sony on board. But it was a head fake!

Take this article with a grain of salt because this is not just a five of sales forecasting work. These long analysis of projections are usually the number they expect the companies to BEAT.

Plus they admitted that they think the main reason is price? I think among gamer's the main reason is technology, and games, and price. Point everyone loves zelda, metroid, pokemon, dragon quest, etc, but there needs to be some tech there.

Not that many core gamers wanted the wiiu because of technology not being a big enough leap. Amazing Nintendo games can only do so much to pull in most core gamer's.

And Sony does have way more games that are top notch, and rated. This coming from a x xbox loving fool, I will miss you master chief, nope already forgot you once I got my hands on infamous 1 and 2 on PS plus free(playing 2 a 3rd time now!). Thanks for welcoming me back to the fold Sony fans!).

For some reason I can no longer get to the Dualshock website. It sends me to a 'sign in' screen.

Edit: I misread. lol

I still think they're out by 2 million for the PS4 though.

Abriael1285d ago

My bad, I pasted the wrong url in :D is fixed now.

PS4isKing_821285d ago

Looks like a pretty accurate estimate. As good as Sony is doing lately, they might sale as many as 14 mil in addition to their current 5 mil for a total of 19 mil sold by Dec 31st.

And for anyone doubting this, ps2 was selling these kinda numbers during it's run.
And right now, it's looking very much like it'll surpass ps2's enormous sales.

BitbyDeath1285d ago

We talking financial or calendar?
Calendar the numbers seem way too low, financial the numbers seem a bit high.

Agent_hitman1284d ago

My prediction, 150 million ps4 by 2016

Unreal011284d ago

Over 90000000000.
