In the next entry of this ongoing series, Stephen from Leviathyn looks back on his one of his favorite PlayStation 2 games, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
I loved MGS 3, but in terms of rating the MGS franchise... Mine would go like this: 1. MGS 1 2. MGS 4 3. MGS 3 4. MGS 2 Although it's like comparing diamonds and rubies. They're all freaking amazing, so there's really not much difference in which is placed higher. Just my personal preference. :]
1 was definitely great, and a very close second to me. I had a lot of qualms with 2 and 4, and never actually made it through Portable Ops. I mean to revisit the entire series soon and tackle the games I've missed (the original Metal Gears, Portable Ops, Peace Walker).
As someone who did just that last Summer, starting from the original Metal Gear, all the way to Peace Walker (only missed Portable Ops because it is inaccessible to me). My order would be (though I truly love them all as close to equal as possible). 1. MGS4 (remains my greatest game ever made) 2. Peace Walker 3. MGS1 4. MGS2 5. MGS3 (GASP!! IS HE CRAZY??) Excluded Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 because they are just too different. However, being the age they are, they were a blast to play even in 2013, and quite challenging. So that's my opinion, with every single game FRESH in my memory from last Summer. Before I did that, I probably would have put MGS3 a bit higher due to old memories. But replaying it, it was a pretty slow story over all in comparison to PW which took place in a similar era, but moved along better for me than 3. I am slightly biased towards the present day games though, I like them better in general, over the Cold War era games. But Peace Walker combined with Phantom Pain could easily change that.
Metal Gear 2 was so awesome. Although the backtracking was retarted. In terms of MGS mines is like this 1.MGS 2 2.MGS 1 3.MGS 3 4.MGS 4
I don't know what it is with peace walker I cannot get into it. It doesn't feel like a metal gear. I don't know why.
I agree with the writer, Snake eater hands down is the best MGS game 2 date. and that soundtrack!
Peace Walker Mgs3 Mgs1 Mgs2 Mgs4
I don't know which ones my favorite but def not 3. Prob between 1 and 4 for me.
For me: MGS1 MGS3 MGS2 MGS4 Peace Walker (played it, never beat it)
Been saying this for years, and started to think I was the only one. 4 remains a disappointment for me, and the only step back in the franchise. Snake Eater is the pinnacle of the series.
Too many cut-scenes and not enough gameplay for me, otherwise it may have ranked among my favorites. (I also didn't care for the post-credits reveal.)
Agreed. I couldn't believe it when I finished Act 3. Sneaking around in an alleyway and what seemed like an endless, drawn out cutscene afterward. I remember the criticism being "Movie Gear Solid" prior to release, and I thought to myself that these guys must be crazy; clearly they've never played an MGS game before in their lives. How wrong I was. I think Kojima got a little too grandiose for his own good with 4. Otherwise, the franchise is of impeccable quality.
Never forget my first time playing at 14 epic lol it made me start smoking cigars lol to be like big boss lol mgs1 was best in my opinion :-D
MGS 3 is still the best in terms of stealth. No hand holding, no radar, and the food hunting. Oh my. Too awesome and wayyyy ahead of its time. Still the game u actually hunt food and eat. Backpack management top notch. M4Custom spoilt mgs4 for me and the long ass cutscenes. Don't let me start on the microwace part. It was awesome but it wasn't 3
Mgs 3 is the best. I finished the game and is a beast. A must play.
