Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is NISA's Best-Reviewed Game in Seven Years

Hardcore Gamer: Spoiler alert: we love NISA. Whether its our magazine covers their games graced, the strategy guides we worked on or the thousands of articles we’ve written about their games, there’s little doubt that they hold a special place in our heart. That being said, there’s no secret that they don’t exactly produce the best reviewed games. That’s not to say that they’ve produced many “bad” games, but the appeal for many of their titles is extremely niche, making it hard for the games to reach above an 80/100 average. Bursting out of the gate in 2014, however, NISA has bucked the trend.

I'm not surprised. Most of the games NISA publishes are extremely niche titles, which only appeal to a small minority and suffer from weak gameplay, storytelling, controls, poor graphics or some combination of these things. Danganronpa appeals to a more diverse crowd than the moe people and is 100% story driven, which has more focus than a lot of their games tend to have.

Yea the game was developed by Spike Churnsoft. After reading the article I don't think the author realizes that NISA is only localizing and publishing the game in the west.

A lot of people go by publisher instead of developer, which is why wording like this comes into play. In reality, the most developer credit you could give NISA is anything by Nippon Ichi. Beyond that, they just publish things and most people remember / think of NISA when thinking of these games, not the misc developers they publish for. Shame, but it isn't like most developers are that well known. We just hear about the publishers as I mentioned before.

I know? I didn't want to have an overly complex statement (especially since NISA in it of itself does not make games, just localizes and publishes) and left it as them just being a publisher because the vast majority of what they do is publish (be it anime or games).
