Is multiplayer killing story mode?

Multiplayer mode in video games has been on the rise. The intense competition and sense of community captivates players and has ensured a continuous increase in games featuring online play. However, are developers starting to focus so much on online gaming that the story suffers? (Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Call of Duty: Ghosts, David Vonderhaar, Frank Gibeau, PS3, Xbox 360)

As long as games like The Order: 1886 and Infamous: Second Son keep coming then no. There's still a prevalent place for single player experiences.

Not really. There are multiplayer titles ( Warhawk,Battlefield, Call of Duty ect...) and single player titles (The Last Of Us,Uncharted,Tales of Xillia, Infamouse second son ect.....). Battlefield had no singleplayer unti EA told dice there needed to be some because that was the norm back in 2008. Likewise today Tomb Raider included multiplayer in 2013 because that was the norm.We should let publishers know that its fine to have a fantastic multiplayer with no Story ( Warhawk,Battlefield 2) or a fantastic story with no multiplayer (Ni No Kuni:Wrath of The White Witch,God of War 3) at a full $60.

It's not, though, for some odd reason, some people are trying to. I guess it's because they don't have a lot of story-heavy, singleplayer-driven games to play.
