10 Reasons Mario Kart 64 Is Still Loved By Everyone

Who doesn't love Mario Kart 64? That's a question that could only be answered with sincerity by the most cynical, jaded, dark-hearted human being to ever walk the planet. A timeless classic and an ageless wonder from the era of the N64, Mario Kart 64 is a kart game that still holds a near and dear place in the hearts of gamers the world around for a number of reasons, and this list kind of rolls them all out for those of stricken with a bit of nostalgia, or those of us eagerly awaiting the release of Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U, which is due out this May. (Mario Kart 64, Retro, Wii)

Nintendo should do an HD remake of this game and release it before Kart 8.

because it's 1080p 60fps...duh...

The A.I, and character models were atrocious in this game. Great freaking tracks though, and liked the blue shell in this one the best.

Yeah Crash Team Racing and Diddy Kong Racing were better.

I'm a playstation fan. But come on. Even I know this game is the best kart racing game. I own a Nintendo 64. Some of the best games I ever played...super smash brother. Mario. Mario kart. 007 golden eye. Man...Good times. I love playstation. The only thing I don't like (about the whole direction of the industry not just sony) is the lack of multiplayer offline. I want to have the option to play with friends. Come on!

It's like they want gamers to move away from the 'oh my friend owns a ps4 I'll go to his house to play with him' mentality cause they're scared they'll sell less consoles. This is where Nintendo gets props. I wish Sony and MS take notes. I'm sticking with my ps3 and eventually ps4 but I want more offline multiplayer options...although now with ps+ being mandatory to play online multiplayer I feel like they will move away from offline even more to give ppl more incentive to buy plus. Plus is worth the money but it's not worth losing playing with your friends. Damn it! I'm ranting. Pce

I had a LOT more fun with CTR than I did with Mario Kart 64. The best Mario Kart, in my opinion, is still the first one.

I played MK64 and CTR...but CTR is in full real 3D, much more fun an the controls are so better.

off topical ramble starts now.
Never played Mario Kart 64. I'm 22 and my first console was a PS2, favorite game was Timesplitters 2. Splitscreen coop was fun then...I now have a Wii U and can't wait for Mario Kart 8! I'm saving money to get an Xbox 1 in Nov. when Halo 2 anniversary comes out (hopefully) so many good times playing that game with friends at halo parties (we literally called then Halo parties back then)aahhh good times goooood times.

People on this website amaze me. You're being disagreed with for *nostalgia*?
TripC50  +   292d ago
Couldn't contain myself. Maybe people disagree with my decision to get an Xbox1 in November?

Personally I find the original Mario Kart(SNES) the only good one.

This goes for all Mario Spinoffs.

Original Mario Party >>>>>>> Sequels

Original Smash Bros>>>>>> Sequels

original smash bros? no, it was good, especially the "board the platforms" challenges but Melee is the best yet.
ambientFLIER  +   292d ago
Original smash is best to me. By far the simplest and most enjoyable. Man, I remember doing those challenges...

I honestly must have played 3000 hours over 3-4 years of my childhood playing block fort battle mode vs my friends. I mean, we used to have tournaments with prizes every weekend, talking about strategies throughout the week as if nothing else mattered.

Needless to say, I didn't have many gf's during this time, nor did I do very well in school, but looking back it was more then worth it. This game along with 007 Goldeneye, Diddy Kong Racing, DK Country, Banjos and Perfect Dark solidified a fun and exciting childhood :D

MarioKart 64 meant the world to me.
ambientFLIER  +   292d ago
That's pretty sweet
Nerdmaster  +   292d ago
For me MK 64 is the worst one. The tracks are too long, the roads are too wide, they have too many straights, and these things make them too boring. And in multiplayer mode you can't even choose specific tracks.

Absolutely love this game and still play it from time to time on the Wii.
commadore65  +   292d ago
There was a great shortcut I managed to perfect on the rainbow road. If you jump and do a hard left after the start line you can jump the barrier and land on another bit of the track. Has to be bang on though.

Also the jump over the wall on Wario's track, but I'm pretty sure everyone knew that one.
