Five Classic Sega Franchises In Need Of A Reboot

HeyPoorPlayer's Frank DiPersio writes: As a longtime Sega fan, it’s depressing seeing how many of the developer's former flagship series have fallen to the wayside. Few studios have the wealth of memorable properties that the former hardware giant has accumulated over the years. While the company has made some smart moves over the past several years as a publisher, not the least of which being the acquisition of Atlus, we’d still like to see Sega take the initiative and revive some of these long forgotten franchises. (Culture, Industry, Retro, Sega)

Shining Force needs it more than any other franchise. Unfortunately, when we tried to tell the current series lead about it, he took it as an insult, and began to act like a child.

There's no hope for this series.

It's a shame. To this day no SRPG has matched the level of charm and accessibility the Shining Force games have. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed to see another SF epic until the day I die.

I'd be happy seeing all of them made well in this day and age. In particular Streets of Rage and Panzer Dragoon.

I have just realised how much I miss Panzer Dragoon. What a game that was.

Shenmue, Knights, Toe Jam and Earl, Wonder Boy, Shenobi, Zombies ate my Neighbors. There are a lot of Sega franchises that need to see the light of day.

Oh, I forgot about AlienStorm. I loved that title so much.

Well now that Sega own Atlus they said they'll allow them to blow the dust off some old IP's. Get the team that made Dragons Crown to give us a new Golden Axe!

A Sega-produced collaboration between Atlus and Vanillaware? Tyris Flare drawn in Dragon's Crown style? Ok, I think I need to change my pants now.

Ristar and Comic Zone are some franchises I want to see come back.

Loved that game! Never beat on Genesis though, it was too long.

Got it again on the Sonic Genesis Collection, still have to finish it. Save games is blast!

Puppeteer could have been more influenced by it... with the heads and all.

Vectorman. Jet Set Radio. Crazy Taxi. People seems to forget how sick Sega actually was.

Sega have done a great job rebooting their franchises at different times, Sonic Adventure, Phantasy Star Online and OutRun 2 for example.

I'd love Streets of Rage to come back but only if it could do the series justice, and I think a number of efforts over the years have been aborted for that very reason..

Fighting Force was originally supposed to be a reboot to Streets of Rage on the PS1

I always wanted to give the abandoned playstation 2 version of Vectorman a shot. I know it was probably garbage, but I miss that ballsy green bastard.

We all know of all their franchises, Alex Kidd needs a reboot the most right after the snail game.
