PS4, PS3 and PS Vita Doing Great in Asia; Sony on Xbox One: “It’s Welcome”

The PS4 has launched in Asia before Japan, creating a quite unique situation for the brand, and Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia Deputy President Hiroyuki Oda and Sony Computer Entertainment Taiwan General Manager Tatsuo Eguchi told Game Watch that things are going quite well. (Hiroyuki Oda, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, Tatsuo Eguchi, Xbox One)

Yep. It's welcome for the last position on charts. Sony has always dominated MS on Asian territory. It's not going to change now that they dominate everywhere lol.

"It's welcome for the last position on charts"

Just like with the Xbox 360 that came in last place in worldwide sales.

The big difference this gen is Microsoft won't have the benefit of the RRoD fiasco to inflate their installed base numbers in the US(and the UK) by tens of millions of units like they did with the Xbox 360.

Do you have factual evidence that RROD inflated the install base by tens of millions?

@sitdown We'll probably never know for sure how many, as Microsoft will never release the numbers. But we DO know for a fact that the failure rate was relatively high, and many if not most consumers bought another 360 in place of their failed console.

@ Axios2

So basically what that list shows is that Xbox fans prefer guzzling down more of the same stuff on average, whilst Sony fans prefer to support more diverse projects on average.

Oh, and that Call of Duty is still the most overrated franchise of all time.

What Sony said...

"When the xbox one will be released conveying various charms in a different way, while competing properly, I think the most important thing will be that it’s going to expand the video game industry and the market itself. I’m often asked “What would you do if the Xbox One comes?” and the answer is “it’s welcome.""

Wow just when you think you can't get any lower...

Arrogant...Sony, what is this 2006

Microsoft is the arrogant one here, they've been in their own world for years thinking everything is fine and how much we love Kinect, now that reality has hit them they are still trying to make out like they are better.

I honestly don't see how Sony are being childish WELCOMING Microsoft to the Japanese market....I mean.....god I honestly don't know with you.
CryofSilence  +   612d ago

I seem to recall a Microsoft ad suggesting people should "ditch" their PS3s. That doesn't make them out to be the knights in shining armor you like to portray. ;)
jebabcock  +   612d ago
@georgenoob and those too lazy to read the article

An executive of Sony was responding to the question of a possible release of the xbox one in Asia and it's impact. The guy basically said that having it would expand the market and they would welcome it there... Not sure I am seeing the arrogance... Please read the article first so you get things in context...
johndoe11211  +   612d ago

Just when people think you can't sink any lower, you prove them wrong. Way to go using that one bubble with a totally inaccurate and irrelevant comment.

O.T. Sony and the rest of the world knows that the xbox is doomed in asia but it was still really classy of them to welcome microsoft to the market. In all fairness I think microsoft would have done the same.
Kryptix  +   612d ago

By looking at that list, you can tell who supports new IPs and who supports the same 4 or few franchises over and over.

I also find it funny how Kinect Adventures sold almost 20mil on the Xbox 360 which tells what type of gamer is the majority on Xbox...the casual. That explains why Microsoft changed their focus away from the hardcore during the last few years.

Ahhh georgenoob never fails to fail. It's like some kind of high level sci fi paradox.

Is anyone clear on why Axios is listing PS3 and 360 games…? Maybe we really have gone back in time. The arguments from MS fans would seem to support that theory.

All that tells me is that there are more dude-bros on Xbox therefore, more dude-bros games are sold on Xbox.

As for the Top 10 exclusives.
PS3's list is made up of WIDE variety of games. While 360's list nothing but Halo, Halo, Halo, Halo, Gears, Gears, Gears, Kinect, Fable.

The US seems to be welcoming PS4 more than XB1. If MS can't win there they most likely can't win anywhere, and winning NA in a big way last gen didn't keep them out of 3rd place.

And lets talk about ignorant, especially at the "Im not surprised" comments below. So just because they are remotely similar the Asians are supposed to love a Japanese product? Only in the handheld space. Other than the PS3, the PS1 outsold the N64 and PS2 outsold the GC. The PS3 is only 3 million away from beating Wii sales. The PS3 is still very much alive and still getting new games, while Nintendo completely abandoned it as soon as the Wii U launched. This means the PS3 still has a chance of outselling the Wii in Japan.

Will the PS4 outsell the Wii U in Japan? We can't say it yet, but it's most likely.

Awesome comment.

Reminds me of how years ago every Xbox fanboy desperately tried to repeat the lie that Sony claimed the PS2 would be capable of "Toy Story" graphics.

Who really made the idiotic "Toy Story" graphics claim?

Microsft...of course:

"One of the basic premises of the Xbox is to put the power in the hands of the artist," Blackley said, which is why Xbox developers "are achieving a level of visual detail you really get in 'Toy Story.'"

Jul 28, 2000 - Exhibition: 25-27

www.siggraph.org/s2000/formsf iles/S2000AP.pdf‎

Look at Page 44.

Medieval Chamber
Richard Marks
Sony Computer Entertainment
In the Medieval Chamber, real-time video
processing tracks multiple stick-like objects
held by viewers. As they move these objects,
viewers move objects in the virtual world (a
sword, a ball-and-chain, and torch) that are
rendered in real time in a medieval chamber
with shadows, reflections, transparency, and
point lighting.

Now the funny ironic thing

the WiiMote concept by this company pitched the idea to Sony first:

But in 2001, before all the PS3 problems and resignations, it felt like Kutaragi had the entire industry in the palm of his hand.

"I'll never forget that meeting at Sony," Quinn says. "We were in a tiny little room with a big PC projector and Kutaragi comes in, introduces himself, sits down and - I swear this is true - he closed his eyes the moment I started showing my pitch. He never opened them until I had finished.

Yoshida happened to occasionally play golf with Asada before he became chairman.

So than , Went to Nintendo and pitched the Idea

One final meeting was set up in early September 2001, this time with Quinn flying to Kyoto to pitch his motion controller to Nintendo.

Sony already had such a Motion control system in the works even before Nintendo even got the pitch!

"“Historically we’re always developing new things. We know Sony have had a lot of issues with their rumble feature and they’ve had to withdraw it – because they didn’t innovate, they copied. With Nintendo, I’m trying to think of anything we’ve copied... but I can’t"

maniacmayhem  +   612d ago
That is hilarious, how unfortunate that Sony didn't have the vision or insight to go with their Move at launch for the PS3 as Nintendo did with the Wii.

"We know Sony have had a lot of issues with their rumble feature and they’ve had to withdraw it – because they didn’t innovate, they copied."

That is so funny and so true, this was said by Nintendo UK boss David Yarnton by the way.

First of all move was created way before the wii. A demo was first shown in 2000, I believe. Check on YouTube there s a video about it.
What about eyetoy? Did they stole that too? Nope! What about buzz?
I agree with u on rumbling function was a nintendo idea.
Hicken  +   612d ago
... it's funny and true that Nintendo, who copied/bought the Wii remote tech- which Sony had first- is saying they never copied? Like they didn't "copy" the second screen functionality from the VMU of the Dreamcast? Like their classic controller isn't a copy of the 360 controller? Like the whole motion gaming concept itself wasn't copied from Sony's Eyetoy on PS2? Like they didn't copy their focus going foward- with account-based gaming designed to tie in all their devices- from Sony?

Yeah, so funny and true...

to be fair to Microsoft this time they have a better chance to make a dent in the Asia region because they have decided to go region free... Region free was a huge advantage that made the PS3 simply kill the 360 but still I think even with region free the XBONE would have a tough time in Asia and Japan
rebeljoe14  +   612d ago
Those Asian accents must make it harder to use Kinect, now I'm not trying to offend anyone or be racist just stating my observation. I understand that most Chinese and Japanese students do learn English in their schools but for the most part the sentence structures and not as well verse seeing as most don't have the chance to use the language in daily communications as oppose to only academic uses. Also I am ignorant but would assume that some kids there would lack the proper accent when pronouncing words to give commands to Kinect and it might really ruin the experience.
Chrisgamerguy  +   612d ago
They might as well release the x1 there. The 360 sold, not as much as the ps3 but it still sold. If it sells there they will ship sum there. ms is very rich and they got there by knowing business
