Elder Scrolls Online needs 60 GB of free space

As the product page of The Elder Scrolls Online reveals, you need 60 GB of free space on your hard drive or SSD. Skyrim started with 6 GByte originally. Besides that the minimum requirements are kind of low while the recommended hardware features a Quad Core CPU and a DX11 powered graphics card. (PC, The Elder Scrolls Online, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)

O.O

Even if this was F2P, don't expect me to download a 60GB file.
Eonjay  +   362d ago
That is a lot of Scroll.

You'll get a lot elder waiting for this to download on a slower connection.

I wonder how it got up to 60GB. Nothing in the game suggests it needs this much, so that's quite surprising. Hell, more impressive games needs less space.

Agreed. Looking at the visuals and gameplay, it doesn't really look that amazing (which I hate to say since most of Bethesda's games are outstanding). Hopefully not all upcoming next gen games are this big.

You need to take alot of other factors into account when it's an MMO we are talking about. The AvA will require alot of players on screen at the same time, so sacrificing graphics for that is pretty common and preferable assuming you want a smooth experience.
Volkama  +   362d ago
It doesn't look visually bad right now, but it it doesn't look like they're thinking of what PCs will be capable in a year or 2 (mmorpgs should always aim into the future IMO).

But it's currently 30gb, so if 60 is required then maybe they have been holding out on us.
Roccetarius  +   362d ago
@Sideras I'm aware that we're talking the MMO space here, but this is pretty high even for that. As i said, i haven't seen another MMO taking up this much space, which looked and played better.

Don't expect me to download that, and pay $15 a month! HA your joking
aLucidMind  +   354d ago
It'll be free-to-play in a matter of a few months, there is no doubt about it. Especially since the Imperials are unavailable to play as unless pay extra for them.

Too bad for Bethesda that most don't know Zenimax, Bethesda's owner, is developing this game and that Bethesda is only having lore masters keep the game in-lore.
MysticStrummer  +   362d ago
I wonder how this applies to the console version. If it's still that big a download I may not be playing the game even if/when the sub goes away.
Lon3wolf  +   362d ago
Beta takes 30GB not sure why the final would be 60GB?
_LarZen_  +   362d ago
CGI movies probably take up allot of space. But 60gb is allot...
UtraAtomic  +   362d ago
what!!!!!!!!!! 60gb
tanookisuit  +   362d ago
Wow, and I thought Total War Shogun 2 was beastly (at something like 25GB)!

Woah.

WTF!! 60gb?! Alright, this is the nail in the coffin for me.
annus  +   362d ago
I'm pretty sure the game itself isn't 60gb, it just REQUIRES 60gb (for the install). Say you download 25gb of files at launch, these are compressed and have to be uncompressed. You then have the big compressed files, and then you have the uncompressed ones. Once that is done it removes the compressed files. Since you have need at least twice the amount of room needed to do this, it makes sense.
Lon3wolf  +   362d ago
Now that makes sense, don't know why I didn't think of that, PS3 does the same for digital games.
MysticStrummer  +   362d ago
Good point!
Volkama  +   362d ago
Nah. Right now the requirement is 30gb, and the game is 30gb.

If it's 60 for launch it's because they're adding to that 30gb. CGI videos are missing right now, and with any luck they will be pushing a higher resolution texture pack and such (though those should be optional, and listed in the recommended specs not basic)

I thought Uncharted 3 was insane to download (43GB) this is just insane! And don't get me started on the price... $60 to buy the game then $15 a month to keep playing the same game you paid $60 for? Ridiculous!
_LarZen_  +   362d ago
I can see your point of view if you are new to the mmorpg genera. But there is a reason there are still P2P mmorpg games.

And that one of the biggest mmorpg games still makes tons and tons of money.

Wow they want me to pay $60 than $15 a month and get a new HDD. I played the beta and the bow was clunky and tgat is my weapon in TES so looks lime I have many reasons to pass this up.
aLucidMind  +   354d ago
And to pay extra to play as the Imperials. Zenimax is about to destroy Bethesda's reputation, despite Bethesda not having anything to do with this game beyond having lore-masters on the dev team.
LAWSON72  +   354d ago
I know it is BS, I am just glad I did not like it so I am not really missing out on much
