Sony has no current plans for multiple slim Vita colours, 64GB card

Digital Spy - Sony has no current plans for multiple slim PS Vita colours or a 64GB memory card in the UK.

"Black has been, over the history of PlayStation portable consoles anyway, the most successful colour," UK managing director Fergal Gera told Digital Spy.

"So we're happy to introduce black. Might we introduce some more colours? Well, perhaps. But we're not taking that call right here and now."

He continued: "To be honest, I don't want to complicate for us and for our retailers excessively by trying to manage multiple SKUs, but it's certainly not a case of saying never. It's just saying, 'Not for the moment'."

While Gera also had nothing to "announce here and now" for a 64GB memory card, the launch of the new slim Vita will give them an opportunity to evaluate demand.

"We will regauge feedback and this is a good moment as we introduce this new device to listen to what gamers are saying," he said.

now that is just DAFT, i mean what happened to providing options. i cant see how offering more colour options will hinder the purchase of this product.... dont even get me started with the even more absurd not offering a 64gb who the hell at sony uk is making these choices

TomShoe1393d ago

I think they'll do it in the future.

A memory card price cut would be nice first.

64gb price= one psvita slim.

quick question: i have all my stuff on an 8gb. can i put all my game saves through Online Storage with psplus and have them put on a new SD card?

Yes.

Do you have hardware that works with the PSVita's backup option?

If you have a PS3, you can just back up your 8GB card data to the PS3, slap another card into your Vita, and then restore back to that.

Multiple colors haven't done well in non-Japan territories for handhelds, usually, at least not unless it's a special edition.

As far as the 64G sticks, I think a lot of people are waiting on the price of the memsticks to go down, not necessarily increase in size.

For what it's worth, I have a 64G memstick for my Vita. I imported it and it was about $10 more than a 32G, after shipping. I've downloaded every one of my PSN, PSP, PS1, and PS+ games and it's only half full...

mine is full without having all my games on it (32gb) due to buying games + a year's worth of psplus free games, still alot better than the initial 16gb one i had.

I picked a 64GB up in Japan, filled it up pretty quickly with PS Plus and all of my digital content (Haven't even bothered with non Vita or Mini's either) Worked out $80 for the card from Sofmap (Tokyo)

6 colors in Japan, but 1 in US ?

Most of the color combinations they showed are actually stuff people would buy.

XiSasukeUchiha1393d ago

Come on at 64GB option would be nice!

ABizzel11393d ago

I need a 128GB card, PS+ and all the games I've bought on PSN have filled my Memory card to the max, and I still have about 15 games to move over to the Vita sitting on my PS3.

They need to get a move on with this.

NumOnePS3FanBoy1392d ago

I can only imagine how much they would charge for a 128GB, something crazy like $200+

Im not sure because I live in the US, however do the UK buy digital games? Maybe market research shows 64gb and color Vita won't do well in the UK. I honestly don't know.

paul-p19881392d ago (Edited 1392d ago )

Yep, we do. I bought quite a lot of digital games at Christmas as the UK PSN sales were brilliant (all the games i got like Persona 4, Rayman Legends and Killzone were at least 50% off!).

Personally i buy a lot of indie games from the store, but the retail titles i tend to buy from Amazon as the store prices still tend to be a bit more expensive (e.g. £35 on the store, £25 on amazon) and my poor 16gb card is full of the above mentioned games lol

Goro1393d ago

A 64GB card would probably cost half the price of the Vita

kingdom181392d ago

They cost 120 on amazon, so more than half, a Vita costs 190, so 95 would be half.

NumOnePS3FanBoy1392d ago

Yeah this is where they seriously need to price these things correctly or let third parties make some, if they haven't given permission

CaptainYesterday1393d ago

I just want a purple Vita :/

WeAreLegion1393d ago

...but why? If you want us to buy digitally, give us more space. It's that simple.
