Slim PS Vita pricing will be closer to Christmas promotions, says Sony

Digital Spy - The slim PS Vita's price of £180 is unlikely to be the amount consumers will pay, Sony has said.

The price for the new device, which was announced by the firm at a suggested £180, will change according to promotional deals.

"It's a price that, today, Vita doesn't regularly sell at to be honest," UK managing director Fergal Gera told Digital Spy.

"We do run quite a series of attractive promotions. If you want to know what a great price looks like, £139 for a Vita with a Mega Pack with a memory card was probably the tastiest price we saw up to Christmas." (PS Vita)

Oh thank god, I was about to flip my lid if that was the selling price.

That sounds great but i wonder if the old model will get a price drop due to being phased out by newer model? cause i'd much rather go with the superior screen

If we see the price for the slim similar to maybe the 3DS XL than we may see interesting results. Still software is what sells systems so we'll see what Sony & their partners will bring to the table after this announcement.

What kind of marketing strategy is this????

The release of a new version of basically the same thing always generate a little hype... but they are totally going to lose it with this price.

1. Make at least a few people interested in the new model
2. Release with absurd price
3. Let the new hype die
4. Cut the price
5. Expect to sell

It seems that the Vita and PS4 are being handled with two totally different groups. The Vita group sometimes sounds like the old Sony, cocky and with overpriced products. (for example, the proprietary memory cards are protection against piracy, therefore they should be a hell cheaper, because they are forcing you to buy their own protective measure)

/end of rant

Let's play Killzone Mercenary on dat OLED screen. (and by the way, gritty/dark/naturalist graphs look better on LCD because the deep black, although OLED crushes LCD screen on games like Rayman)
