Eurogamer: "The ratio of PlayStation 4 sales to Xbox One sales here in the UK is 1.5:1, PlayStation UK boss Fergal Gara said at an event this morning, attended by Eurogamer."
Excellent work by Sony. This proves that you should always make a games machine with the gamer in mind FIRST, and not the other way around. That's why PS4 is so much more powerful than Xbox One. That's why it's very easy to develop for. That's why indie developers are finding success on it, and that's why it's the leader in sales, around the world -- even in former Xbox strongholds: U.S. and U.K.
"Sony: UK PS4 to Xbox One sales ratio is 1.5:1" The X1 with all the bad publicity and extra price, i thought the gap would be wider. More like 2:1 or 3:1
@ come_bom omg totally agree with you The ratio is only 1.5:1? Are you kidding me? The ps4 is $100 cheaper and the UK was supposed to be a standout launch for Sony and the Ps4. This result is really underwhelming for Sony. Especially after reports that the ps3 was going to outsell by a ratio of 3:1 or even 4:1. It appears the XBO is doing rather better than the N4g media bias would have us believe.
It took Sony a lot of time to get more units to all the places they launched. In another 6 months, the gap will be huge.
Actually I'm surprised the lead is that big, the PS4 is still hard to come by here and with the 360 enjoying the market share in Uk last gen this is quite a turn around. If M$ lose both America and UK it really isn't looking good for the xbox
@ Come_bom & fanboybeatdown Do you guess live in the UK? Cos if you don't, then I understand your statements, but the UK had a very big Xbox 360 audience last gen. This is a big margin in terms of sales in the UK.
thats why democracy does not work, people are stupid
@come_bon There's a lot of factors here... The UK was a huge 360 market, so no surprise the XB1 is doing well The figures of 3:1 and 5:1 were always going to be BS. And anyone who believed them was a moron. Did people honestly think that when Sony said they did over 1million in 24 hours that the XB1 would only have done 200,000. Or to put it another way - if Sony could sell 5million, the XB1 would only have done 1million The PS4 was (and still is) far more supply constrained than the XB1, so Sony may have lost sales to MS. I'm not sure how Sony would have accurate sales data for the XB1, so the ratio could be higher or lower
It's out of stock everywhere while the Xbox One is readily available. This is a worldwide phenomenon.
They are often sold out here in the UK.
I'll put it simply: The PS4 is selling more than it can ship whilst the X1 is shipping more than it can sell.
@amiga-man totally agree with you! Having stuck with PlayStation through the years, ps3 was definitely the least favorite console here in the UK last gen. Which I personally never understood. So yeah I pretty much expected the new consoles to be neck and neck here and in the US. Good for Sony!
Yeah... but the numbers are misleading... the sales ratio is wider, because (according to Eurogamer): By the end of 2013, PS4 had amassed 4.2 million sales worldwide... but Microsoft's new machine has only managed to *SHIP* 3.9 million consoles worldwide so far. Sell-through to consumers vs. Shipped to retailers... A Big Difference. Of course, we don't know how many of those are from the UK, but the shipped vs. sold issue should be taken into account. PS4s are still in short supply while the XB1 has been available through the holidays and is on shelves almost everywhere. Amazon has not had PS4s for weeks. Never a shortage there of PS4s. Same goes for BestBuy online, Gamestop, Target online, etc.
It's a good point you make harrisk, theres a big difference between selling to shops and selling to customers, one things for sure the PS4 has the customers, not so sure about xbox judging by the amount I see in the shops.
What I would like to know is how many users how upgraded from the PS3 to PS4, Xbox 360 to xbox one and who has jumped from sony to xbox and xbox to sony as from what I have seen so far not many people are moving from on to another they are staying with who they are with now and a lot of people with 360's have said they are waiting for the price to come down before getting a xbox one. But that said good job by sony to get the lead as this is a market they lost last gen but its still early to say who will sell what over the next few years.
Ps4 are not sold out here on the Wirral,UK Hmmm n4g for you at first first it was 5:1 not it this, spin spin sugar!
Ha. Cmon, level with me, sometimes you guys have got to be kidding? Downplay it all you want, its 50% more sales for PS4, and its still winning in the USA, the only two places in THE WORLD where Xbox beats Playstation and the US was sheer domination last gen. You guys are just whistling while walking through a graveyard. I mean, denial is only the first stage of grief, you guys should have moved through anger, bargaining and be on depression by now or you'll never get to acceptance by the time inFamous is out. And the rest of the world pretty much is 3:1 and Sony is about to sell 500K to a million (who knows) in Japan in a couple weeks. And to top it off, the thing is always sold out, hard to get. I know people who bought an Xbone just cos they couldnt wait anymore for a PS4. Now imagine in a couple months when supply catches up to that demand. Sony in going to have at least a 4 to 5 million lead after the first year of sales, they basically just cant make them quick enough. When you pull your heads out of the sand, dont forget to clean behind your ears.
"sales ratio is 1.5:1" That number has decreased since launch and looks to keep dropping. Xbone already took the US last month. 3 months and Sony guys are still using the "out of stock" excuse even though the PS4 is in 3 times the countries and can be found everywhere. How long you guys going to use that excuse? 5 months, 1 year, 3 years? Fact is the anti Xbox campaign has failed. time for a new strategy because its clearly not working. The $100 more Xbone is catching up and in far less countries. Xbone will probably pass the PS4 by years end.
ALLWRONG your name is just perfect to describe the rubbish you always seem to write.
well ps4 is all sold out... so its maxed out on sales. alot of people may have bought xbone around xmas because ps4 was not available. since ps4 is sold out everywhere and maybe xbone low on stock.... i think comparisons should be made once both has a healthy stck amount
You guys should stop with this sold out bullshit. PS4's and X1's are everywhere in the UK. You can walk into GAME in Oxford Street and leave with a PS4 right this minute. It has been like that all this month. I walked into GAME and bought a PS4 and X1 without a pre order. Could not take a picture but went to CEX same day and they also had loads of used ones and two new units https://skydrive.live.com/r...
Don't know about other countries, but where i live (Portugal), you can find a PS4 quite easily in stores like Fnac or Worten. I even took a pic with my crappie smartphone to send to a friend, interested in purchasing it... http://s27.postimg.org/d5mj... You can't find a Xbox One because it hasn't been released.
Buh buh PS2 dominated UK in the previous gen so no wond.....oh wait!
I'm still trying to get hold of a PS4 here in the UK that's how hard it is, also im not sure if Xbox held the UK as their turf for consoles i think the playstation still had the majority over here last gen.
JOEgolferG Green has found some in London hardly surprising, what he fails to realise is that they are not impossible to find they are just not readily available everywhere as you have found out, good luck in your search JOE.
I saw some people buying Xbox Ones in UK on the launch day, and literally walking into the store and getting one extremely easily (most of them looked like UK equivalent of dudebros). PS4 was a lot more scarce, there are still a lot of people that are waiting to buy one, but waiting for their paychecks.
@fanboybeatdown It's because Sony is meeting demands but on supply alone its still selling Demand+Supply=4:1 bro
Not really surprised. It seems like a good deal. Especially in UK where systems cost more than they would over in the US.
Pretty much. Only reason it's not greater is because of lot of 360 players are staying comfortable in the MS ecosystem rather than making the jump.
so that probably means the actual ratio is 3 to 1. do not believe in any number below double the sales over xbox one.
No, the ratio is for every 3 PS4's sold, 2 XB1's are also sold. 1.5:1 = 3:2 This is a statement directly from Sony. Why spin it to 3:1? Also if Sony were doubling the XB1 as you claim, the ratio would be 2:1 anyway Assuming the ratio stays the same that would give Sony a 1million unit lead when they hit 3million in the UK. A 2million lead when they hit 6million and so on. The ratio sounds realistic to me. UK was a fortress for 360 last gen, so a lot of that momentum will continue in to XB1. For Sony to step up and sell so many more is an impressive turnaround.
To be honest this ratio is dictated by availability. We know the XboxOne is available in most stores but the PS4 you have to wait for stocks to be replenished or pre-order to be able to get your hands on one. The 1.5:1 ratio doesn’t show the true demand, it would be interesting to see what the figure would be if the PS4 was readily available.
A figure that is only going to grow as the year goes by.
Very telling. A lot of the XBoxer would say that the initial numbers were exaggerated. But keep in mind that next to the US, the UK was second in best selling Xbox country.
