Why the Xbox One is amazing according to 'Fable Anniversary' lead designer

Examiner: "Each and every owner of the Xbox One has had a different experience. Everyone values the varying features to contrasting degrees. because your making a game on it?
i really hate this kind of promotion, its like a bronco fan saying tebow was a great QB.

dont get me wrong, i think all systems are great including the wiiu but it just rubs me the wrong way when people state something that may or may not reflect their own true opinion. this guy HAS to say this in order to sell his product..it may be true to him, he may actually think this. but if he doesn't think this, he still would say the same thing in order to make money.....no.

Christopher1301d ago (Edited 1301d ago )

I'm not going to say that he can't genuinely be happy about the Xbox One. My only gripe is that he found what stood out the most was being able to talk to his console. If that's the defining thing for you, your opinion is not one that I can likely share since we look for very different "primary elements" in our gaming consoles.

"Each and every owner of the Xbox One has had a different experience. Everyone values the varying features to contrasting degrees."

It seems like they made a system that can sufficiently perform it functions without excelling in any category. The comparison being made by critics is that he PS4 excels at being a game machine in lieu of having exceptional media features.

For a device that is primarily meant to be a gaming machine, is it better to excel as a gaming platform or is it better to be sufficient across the board and spectrum of entertainment?

The reason why this is important is because if you are not a gamer, are you really going to purchase a machine that require a subscription fee to use it media features; When all of those features are available for free on devices most of us already own.

theWB271301d ago

@Kingthrash
If he wasn't a fan of the Xbox then why hasn't he left the team yet? Do you think it would be a hard thing to look for a job on a different platform if this wasn't his true feelings?

We've seen plenty of devs leave when they aren't happy with their working environment. The guys who started Bioware left THEIR creation because they weren't happy anymore.

@cgoodno
How can you have a gripe with someone's opinion on a FEATURE of a console. Being able to talk to the Xbox is a feature of the Xbox. The only PRIMARY element a console should have is gaming of course. Everything else is an extra feature.

Even the question stated which feature Xbox owners like and the fact that it varies. If someone asked you what you like about a console are you only going to mention games and the specs? Or what features you like?

Christopher1301d ago (Edited 1301d ago )

@theWB27: I don't have a gripe that it's his opinion. All I said is it's not one I can take to heart considering his values in the current generation of gaming consoles differs greatly from my own.

***If someone asked you what you like about a console are you only going to mention games and the specs? Or what features you like?***

As an off-hand, I would. But my primary and main focus would be on the games and related features as I find them important (friends, game updates, online support, speed, quietness, cool/hot from long-term use, store front, etc.) and not on something not gaming related.

I'm not saying he didn't have an opinion on the machine, I specifically said that he found that the ability to talk to his Xbox One is what stood out the most to him. That's not what would stand out the most to me in a gaming console. What would stand out the most to me is its ability to play games and at what level/quality they would do as such.

--

Again, that's my opinion versus his. My opinion is to focus on what makes it great for gaming. His opinion was not that. At least in my opinion.

Man, that last paragraph got a little weird with all the opinions.

nukeitall1301d ago (Edited 1301d ago )

@cgoodno:

He might not be looking at the Xbox One as a primary a gaming console.

Many of us look at it more like an "entertainment device". I probably watch Netflix and TV as much as I play games. Heck maybe even more.

Like the developer, the fact that you can talk to your console and have it recognize you and your movements is fantastic. I hope those things get incorporated more into games which it undoubtedly will be as Kinect One is included with every Xbox One.

"I specifically said that he found that the ability to talk to his Xbox One is what stood out the most to him. That's not what would stand out the most to me in a gaming console. What would stand out the most to me is its ability to play games and at what level/quality they would do as such."

Actually, that level of quality you has hardly changed at all. The things that have changed is indeed being able to talk to your console, instantly switch and so on.

Gaming features, other than video share, has almost stood still on consoles since MS revolutionized it. The last feature being significant is cross game/party chat.

The games hasn't changed much other than motion controls, first by Wii and then by Kinect.

Christopher1301d ago

***He might not be looking at the Xbox One as a primary a gaming console.***

Which is why I said his opinion likely isn't something I would take into account in this regard.

***Many of us look at it more like an "entertainment device". I probably watch Netflix and TV as much as I play games. Heck maybe even more.***

I do Netflix, Hulu and VOD more than games, but my PS4 is not based on its ability to provide for me things my TV (yes, my TV can watch all of those), iPad, PC, and phone can do as well. That's just my opinion.

Akuma071301d ago

If the limited voice commands are enough to impress an industry professional, then I don't have any confidence in his opinion as an industry professional.

Christopher1301d ago (Edited 1301d ago )

***If the limited voice commands are enough to impress an industry professional, then I don't have any confidence in his opinion as an industry professional.***

I wouldn't go that far.

I don't believe every person in the industry has an "opinion" that lines up with those who are buying the consoles themselves. Kind of like how EA has many mangers who clamor for microtransactions. They aren't their own key demographic in many respects and you have to pick and chose between them.

But, having said that, they do make "good" decisions in regards to developing and designing games. Usually. If they aren't otherwise hindered by upper management.

I just don't believe our opinions are copacetic when it comes to what we consider primary to our consoles and what their primary goals should be. His opinions on other elements, such as game design and development, I wouldn't necessarily discredit or not listen to.

@cg:

"I do Netflix, Hulu and VOD more than games, but my PS4 is not based on its ability to provide for me things my TV (yes, my TV can watch all of those), iPad, PC, and phone can do as well. That's just my opinion."

Well mine is an opinion too....

That said, for me the consideration to upgrade to Xbox One was due to the Kinect One and how it makes all those VoD services easier to use. The games are nice, but I still pop back to my Xbox 360 for Gears of War: Judgment, Bioshock Infinite, Halo 4 and so on.

Point being, my main reason to buy an Xbox One now is due to the newness of technology, ease of use, fitness desires, entertainment and well a hint of the games. I din't buy a PS4, because it primarily would have been just the games which none I care for other than maybe KZ: Shadowfall. As a gaming device, they both fail miserably at this time compared to my Xbox 360 and PS3. As an overall VoD, both previous generation console does everything PS4 and Xbox One does.

Finally, the TV ability to do what these consoles can do is abysmally slow, clunky, poor video quality and lack of features. For instance, my Sony blu-ray player does not support Netflix profiles so when a family member watches a movie or show, I get recommended stuff I don't want!

The console is my primary means of watching VoD, and I suspect a lot of other people as well.

"I don't believe every person in the industry has an "opinion" that lines up with those who are buying the consoles themselves."

I think as a developer, it would be far more interresting to work on PC with uber hardware than dumbed down technology (ahem consoles) for cheap mass production. I think he is excited about Kinect features, because the console suddenly out of the box leap frogs PC technology. Not to say PC cannot do it, but not without a lot of tinkering with a non-uniform interface.

WB27..
simplified translation of my comment.

to like or dislike something then state an opinion about it is all good...BUT if you stand to make money off something if you "like" and lose money if you "dislike" it who's gunna say they dislike it?
one guy said "deal with it " and lost his job EVEN THOUGH his words were true...MS intended for you to "deal with it".
this guy would lose his job if he said he disliked the system....period.
but as i said he may be genuine in his comment ...but he kinda HAS to like it....no?

xDHAV0K24x1301d ago

It's his opinion. Is that ok?

Kingthrash3601301d ago (Edited 1301d ago )

its ok ...but if that opinion determines whether or not you have a job, how credible is it?
thats my point.

how many can sit here and say this guy wouldn't have been in trouble if he said the exact opposite?
at no job can you say negative things and still work there...hell if you work at coke and they see you drink a pepsi you're fired..smh this is life guys...if he says anything negative his games won't sell, ms wouldn't work with him and he'd be jobless. period
as i said in my comments above im not saying he is being untrue im saying his opinion has little to no worth simply because he HAS to be positive.

Mithan1301d ago

Agreed.

It is only ok when Sony developers do it.

Kingthrash3601301d ago (Edited 1301d ago )

its never ok bro...take dem fanboy goggles off, they foggy.
i never said anything about sony...sony isnt on topic. if they were i would of said the same.

Great answer. I was going to say becuase they gave you millions to talk it up just like how they are purchased at the Super Bowl handing systems to key players during media day in the middle or end of their interviews when all the cameras are on them.

Sayai jin1301d ago

Well you can apply that to every dev that talks up the system they are supporting. What's the difference between them and other companies and devs?

XiSasukeUchiha1301d ago

if you do say it if developing on it and trying developing both systems first then said it.

MxRBrobaFett1301d ago

Someone saying something nice about the xbox one? Must be a witch. Better burn them to be safe

PeaSFor1301d ago

anyway, its not like if he was on MS payroll......oh wait.

MxRBrobaFett1301d ago

So everyone working for McDonald's has nothing but nice things to say about that company too, right? I mean they are on their payroll after all

slivery1301d ago (Edited 1301d ago )

@MxRBrobaFett

Sadly these days yes they are if they are publicly speaking about these companies, have you not seen all the people getting fired from simply talking trash about a said company on twitter or facebook?

Yea it is stupid and crazy I'll admit but companies have quite a lot of control these days.

Side note directed towards you, not trying to jump into this fan boy nonsense but was basically responding to your McDonalds comment.
