Phil Spencer is very confident of Black Tusk Studios prowess, even going as far as saying they'll become an industry leading studio.
They won't be an "industry leading studio" if their next game is Gears of War: Kinect, which it will be.
That could be the nail in the coffin for quite a few gamers about Xbox One.
Not really, one game does not a system make. Gears of War will be awesome with Rod back leading black tusk on the development of this game. PS 343 had one of the best Halo campaigns ever, the mp is what held the game back. They realized their issue and hired professional Halo players to come in and help with the multiplayer. Microsoft has money, money buys talent. Microsoft has shown a larger investment into developing great games for the XB1. I'm pleased with their direction.
@ truefan1 Money however does not buy passion.
Am guessing an insider told u that from his insider..... You have quite a lot of bubbles there to Troll my friend Gears of war is a great game... its overall reputation and impact is still very appealing to most... Is being first commenter and trolling the new thing? keep seeing it a lot on here lately........ its not like ur going to unlock an achievement/trophy for first comment, first troll.................. Wait or is it?
@VoiceMale I'm not trolling. In fact, the GoW series is one of my favourites. If you think that the next GoW game won't have heavy Kinect integration, you mustn't have being paying any attention to Microsoft over the last few years. You'll have to forgive me if my faith in them is all but gone.
Why is it unless you're slinging pom-poms you're automatically considered a troll? Gears of War was one of my favorite series from the last generation on MS hardware and I'm not all too excited to see it being carried on. At least not yet. But that's only because Gears 3 ended the story. The Locust, Lambent died and they tied up the story perfectly, divided and even killed off some of the cast of characters. My 2nd issue is Judgment, made by a different studio (which is what is happening now with Black Tusk) was a pretty bad game. Of course I expect BT to be better but still I am hesitant about how they can continue this series without it being corny or having a whole new cast of characters and enemies. If they go that direction will it still have the same appeal? We gamers usually don't like that much change. My 3rd reason is it's a rarity that anything can be done better than the original (people, company, etc). Whether it's a game, movie, song, etc, the original is usually the best. Epic Games has some pretty big shoes to be filled. Like Bungie with Halo and 343 Studios taken the ball and running with it. 343 did a great job with Halo 4 but I honestly liked Bungie better. Just like I did with COD before Infinity Ward was split up. Now you have a collaboration of studios making IF's version of the game and it's not as good. Treyarch is running away with the better version now and I use to prefer Infinity over them. I'm not saying it's not possible for Black Tusk to knock it out of the park. But trying to catch lightening in a bottle by someone other than the original is an extremely hard task (pun not intended). We will see soon enough. But honestly I don't like this approach. It's like saying anybody can do what you did (you're all expendable) and possibly even make it better. This is usually not the case but I look forward to "possibly" being proved wrong. I have my doubts but it could happen. Either way I think Spencer talks WAY TOO MUCH. Let the games do the talking for once and dial down the PR. Hyperbole of shouting from the mountain tops to and from the media has me completely worn out. Show me. Don't tell me.
@Brutallyhonest I can see where you are coming from but this is not always true. 343 did a good job with Halo 4 as you did I thought the new story was good and the sp wowed me which I have not done with a halo game since 2. Yes the MP was not quite as good as 3 but its better than reaches imo. I also think KI is a very good reboot of the game too and done by a different studio. Even though it was not quite a new studio taking over Forza I thought Forza Horizon was also an amazing game too but it was a different direction to the Main Forza games. No one know what will happen in the next gears we may have it that not all the enemy were killed or it could be a new enemy all together and it maybe done in the future a bit like BO2 was. I am really liking what the Microsoft studios are doing at the moment and it will be interesting to see how some of there big named IP's turn out but also on how some old IP's make a come back like KI has. I am looking forward to seeing what can be done it maybe poor it could be great but im willing to see what they have to offer before thinking it will not be as good.
@voice gow might be a good game but people are sick of it thats why the series has been in decline (sales wise) Naughty dog > everyone else
I don't think that Microsoft is that stupid. But I've been wrong before.......
Well they did think they owned the rights to Donkey Kong when they bought Rare.... So....
The Kinect game burn again smh you guys need some new material, that's pre-E3 2013 stuff lol And it's clear that Kinect will sometimes be used alongside the controller but not taking the place of controllers any time soon and GOW will not be a Kinect game I can see Black Tusk and 343 being at the top starting with Halo 5 this year and Gears in 2016. Great times ahead
haven't MS came our since Novemberish with an interview saying while there will be some pure kinect games (Kinect Sports for example) that they'll be using the Kinect along side the controller to add a new "level" to game play... think they used BF4 and the leaning as the example and DR3 with the controller and the kinect being used for certain moves. as for myself i'm predicting at least a trilogy on the 79 year war before the locust even existed in the universe with some spin offs to include a halo wars type game
But what if they make the game even better than EPIC did? What it's it's a hybrid adventure/shooter where you get to go from planet to planet, colonizing worlds and defending against the local alien flora and fauna? Black Tusk is a new studio. We obviously need to see what they can do instead of simply taking Microsoft's word for it, but there's no reason to believe they'll be a crap studio.
I'm not saying they are crap. I'm saying Kinect is crap.
Last time a different developer handled the Gears franchise we got Gears of War Judgement...
Yeah, I'm always wary when a big franchise changes hands.
343i handled Halo really well.....you could expect the same from Black tusk.
No really they didn't halo 3 was awesome and the "full price add ons" eg odst and reach just made it go stale and by the time the 4th came out! gears and halo have had a massive drop in sales over the past 2 games (judgement , halo 4) partly due to ms and hardly any fresh ideas.
ODST was very different. Very different way of story telling probably too lengthy for an expansion but probably too little for a full $60 game. The fact you even considered Reach as an Add-on shows you probably never played it. Entirely new. In every aspect.
Im with you on this. I have never been of fan of changing hands for just about anything. Great example is Terminator franchise. That went to gutter quick post Cameron
Not if they have to put everything else on the back burner for gears of war
The studio has the talent hired and the monetary resources to be top flight. That doesnt mean guaranteed....we shall see.
If the studio does a job comparable to what 343i did with Halo, I'll be more than happy.
Firstly judgment's multiplayers was made by EPIC (the bad part of the game) people can fly made the campaign (better part of the game) I highly doubt the kinect will have a heavy influence over a new gears game, its ok to be concerned about a new studio taking over gears of war but rod ferguson over seeing the game or games is a good thing for two reasons. The first reason being he has put years into gears of war and knows what he's doing secondly he has seen the response to no DBNO, no locust in multiplayer, removal of so many loved game types, peoples hatred for armour skins, the outcry for horde mode and peoples desire to have a lot of multiplayer character skins. If a new gears game resolves these issues it will do well and most importantly symmetrical maps..... Even though rod was the one that wanted asymmetrical maps in the first place i hope he's seen the poor decision that turned out to be.
Also if FFA has to be in the game (i hope not) make sure the maps are not butchered to compensate for it, keep smoke grenades as the spawn nades set, make sure the game releases with at least 8-10 maps, get rid of the hip fire reticle and really push for a more in depth story. I hope a lot of money is put into a new gears game, gears 3 had a big team, a big budget and influence from the writer of the novels (Karen Travis) judgment had a small team, smaller budget and i believe the story was written by people that had little to no experience with gears of war.
How is this even news, he's hardly gonna turn round and say, "we'll tbh I think Black Tusk are a bit shit." Is he!? I believe approximately nothing that comes out of any executive's mouth.
They invested in this studio, they bought the gears franchise. What else is he going to say? We all do things with the expectation of success.
Black tusk a studio with no record is gonna lead the industry with another studio's IP.
They already have great talent in the studio but with proper managment they just might become an industry leading studio. Keeping my fingers crossed for gow.
Giving them Gears is a massive vote of confidence but also puts a lot of pressure on their shoulders, so we'll wait and see how it turns out.
