Publishing company Electronic Arts confirms during a recent third quarter 2014 earnings call that downloadable content for newly opened studio Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall is already in development.
As a Gundam fan, the only DLC I'd approve of is them adding "Beam Sabers" to Titanfall
Welp, EA knows what to do. It's time to start milking! http://www.kenyanmagazines....
I don't mind seeing DLC development prior to release so long as it's just concepts and brainstorming... but I disagree that resources like designers & programmers should be committed to it before the game itself is in stores. Everybody should be on board making this game run as smoothly and beautifully as possible until release. The only circumstance that committing these resources to DLC makes sense is if they have moved past their respective portion of development.
My goodness people on this site are pathetic, when is the last multiplayer heavy game without DLC. Did you people really doubt there wouldn't be DLC for this game. DLC is here to stay whether you like it or not, the funny thing is YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY IT. I think I only bought the DLC once for COD and still enjoyed my experience.
Wow what a shitty deal. "The publisher does not expect to start having to share revenue with Respawn until some time in fiscal year 2015, which begins on April 1, 2014"
@Blachek "I don't mind seeing DLC development prior to release so long as it's just concepts and brainstorming... but I disagree that resources like designers & programmers should be committed to it before the game itself is in stores." - do you know how game design works? Not everyone is working on the game till the last second. Some of the dev team are all done doing what needs to be done, like the concept artists and the story writers, perhaps the sound team, etc. Instead of "sending these guys home," sort of speak, they are put to work on other projects. This is why DLC is typically being worked on before the main game has shipped. Just because the game isn't in stores yet, doesn't mean everyone on the team still has work to do on it.
@thegreatandpowerful That's less than 3 weeks after launch. I'm not sure why that's such a bad deal.
I sorry but EA isn't the only one that does that.
I didn't say they were...
#xYuzaz Yet you said "typical Ea"...why not say something like "Im tired of companys doing stupid shit like this" instead of calling out one company.
Pretty much all shooters have map packs. EA deserves criticism for lots of things, but I don't think they should get grief for making completely standard DLC, now that the game is done.
I hope they recreate what they did with BF3 and refine it slightly. I would never pay for a map-pack, but I would pay for more game modes, class options, and weapons... so long as they weren't a gimmick.
Yes but other companies aren't stupid enough to reveal DLC is being developed 2 months before the game even releases. It's just asking for backlash.
Its not about the DLC its about how many times are they gonna be DLC, who wants to buy a game then realized they got 15 more DLC's to buy for stuff that should been in the final game looking at you BF3 I have never felt so segregated from my friends until I played COD and BF3.have you ever been invited to a game and got kicked because you dont have that map pack Sad days those were.
Typically every company....DLC is everywhere.Hell its better than being able to buy in game currency for online like you can in gta 5 yet your not being a little bitch about that and attacking rockstar for it,10x times worse than what ea did here. #its been confirmed by EA that they wont have buyable in game currency for the game and not do the pathetic thing rockstar did....
Gotta start milking it.
Wait, are these guys even don't with the game yet...lol???
Well it's coming out early March, and it'll be Feb in 3 days. Certification takes about a month, so yeah, they should be done with the main game at this point.
If they are done with the game then why are they putting out a beta??
Melman26 Because if certification takes a month, they would have approximately 30 days with their product in front of additional eyes. Giving them a month to produce a patch that can help with any balancing tweaks, pathing errors, level design flaws, and system glitches or exploits that testers encounter in that time.
I don't get why I'm getting disagrees here. It does take a month usually for certification to be done. That is a fact.
No idea why they're putting out the beta now. Either they're very confident or just stupid. Probably just for stuff they can either hotfix or patch once the game is out. Day one patches are a bit of standard now.
It's not really a beta -- it's demo.
The headline is wrong on two accounts. 1) EA said "planning" DLC not "in development." 2) That is not the same headline as the article linked.
Beta basically means demo in this case.
Beta is meant to raise hype and maybe a little bit feedback on balancing out guns or something,it might take them a few minutes to do that idiot....
Wonder how much they'll charge...
Probably the standard $14.99 for single map packs or get Premium for $49.99 and get all of them.
Of course you are EA. Meanwhile, they haven't even done an open beta for the game yet. But let's skip the bug fixing and get right on the DLC money grab.
They've got a decent sized team. The programmers squashing bugs won't be the artists and designers drafting new MP maps. They've got enough positions to effectively multitask.
Someone's been playing Game Dev Tycoon.
@WeAreLegion What's funny is I'm the 'tycoon' when folks on here are pretending they are project managers (which I happen to do for a living), and have a better understanding of how Respawn should delegate tasks to their personnel. There's a notion that a developer with respawns talent and EA's resources should devote 100% of their manpower to squashing bugs until release, despite the fact that many of the members of their team aren't programmers, and wouldn't be helpful in the bug squashing efforts. Really, I would expect each member of the team to be doing their job. If their job involves creating content for the game, and the content slated for day 1 is completed, then it makes sense for the content creators to begin planning/creating new content... Sounds like this is exactly what they are doing.
Couldn't have waited until the game released first, could you? God damnit EA.
Are you suggesting they just sit around, twiddle their thumbs until release date, then get back to work?
>game is not even out >already DLC Thats EA for you.
That's…most companies for you. Shocking, I know… /sarcasm
DLC from EA? really? how bizarre.
Yeah man, didn't see that coming
The DLC was confirmed when EA's logo was shown in the first trailer lol
Come on people every big game has DLC, even singleplayer games. Why must we make a big deal about them stating the absolute obvious.
The biggest multiplayer shooter of the moment will feature DLC just like 90% of games?! Que b****ing.
I think the DLC is a non issue. Not sharing profits after a certain amount of copies are sold with Respawn and that they don't expect to share profits any time soon after release is an issue.
I'll wait for the premium edition
Annnnd it's gone Dlc for a $60 multiplayer only game Dlc has been confirmed before we know about game modes, resolution, weapons, and maps
A beta that will end in a week (leaving 3 weeks for?) that you can only join if you preorder. It's CoD offline bot mode set on easy for the multiplayer with mechs. seen some footage on StarHawk for the ps3 that looked way more intresting than this game yet it get's praised as the greatest of all time. PS4 fanboy- looks shity and the bots look retarded. X1 fanboy- it hasn't even came out yet but you A**holes are already judging it. It is going to be the best game ever made. So if a Sony fanboy says it sucks you say dont judge it yet, then turn-around and say its the greatest game ever made. waaaaah XD
They game is finished. Why wouldn't they start working on DLC?
The second respawn sold out to microsoft did it for me. It showed me their heart was in the wrong place, just money money money as usual. They didn't learn anything about being screwed over on their bonuses. Deciding to go pc and xbox only a terrible idea now they held in contract in a console that several challenges in front of it as well as a smaller install base not to mention being 720p and 6 vs 6 with bots. Don't tell it's not due to hardware issues either we all know the truth, almost every game out on xb1 has been effected with its lack of being next gen. Titanfall will be 720p on xb1 and 360. Now microsoft announced a demo for pc and xb1 only and they did this for 2 reasons, 1st another desperate attempt to see all those xb1's sitting on shelves and 2nd they don't want you to see how the 360 version stacks up to the xb1 version because we all know they will be the same resolution.
Perhaps you should start your own game development/managing company and show us all how it's done...
Great...a clone account of some certain fanboy who regurgitates popular N4G bias opinions dipped in pure hate towards anything MS or related. You'll go far on this site son.
If the dlcs are as good as BF3 ones with 5 maps some weaps and new modes priced at under £10 then ok. BF3 had some quality dlc. If its some quickly made crap gtfo.
The worse company in America partners with the second worse company in a America... MS. Lining each other's pockets at the cost of gamers.
MS are bad EA are bad Nintendo are bad dat playstation is good. EDIT <PC is bad>
Everybody calm down the game is almost finished or is finished at this stage will be going through a and a testing balancing etc of course the main team would move on to dlc it's how things work, don't go crazy over this announcement.
Why is anyone surprised or upset? If you didn't expect this then you aren't very astute to the industry.... My big gripe is the claim for its exclusivity is the Xbone's Cloud. I think it's a crock considering the game is on the 360, which is not going to be Cloud based...or am I missing something?
