PlayStation: "We Don't Have An Indie Program"

iGR: "After the controversy behind the [email protected] program at the end of 2013, I wanted to reach out to Adam Boyes and his team at PlayStation to get some additional insight. Specifically, I wanted to know what they considered the distinction between what Microsoft had going on with [email protected] and what Sony was doing to support indies across their platforms."

Treating independent developers with the same community value as AAA developers?

...I like that attitude. A lot. Keep it up, Sony.

EBTpickle1696d ago

There's no reason indies shouldn't have a piece of the pie. I really like their stance on content at PlayStation.

Ever time i hear a bit of news about happy indies on PS4 it makes me glad i bought the console, i love so many indie games and im glad sony is all about them not just AAA big budget games.

MeknSence1696d ago

People are disagreeing because you made a valid point? SMH.

When buying a merchandise, you want the best support for it. These indi developers make some great games. A lot of these AAA companies started exactly where these indi are now. Holding companies back or putting a strong hold on them can damage talented ones.

SpiralTear1696d ago

Eh...what can ya do? N4G.

I think Playstation proved their indie support the best at E3 2013. They gave an entire chunk of their press conference to the indie devs so they could show off what they were making for Playstation. Octodad: Dadliest Catch, Oddworld, lots of great-looking stuff and all independently developed.

Sony could've used that time to show off another AAA exclusive or a multi-platform game, but they dedicated an entire piece of their press conference to the indies. That's support. That's saying "we love your games so much that we're letting you be a part of our E3 press conference."

That's where I felt that Sony proved how supportive of indies they were, and it's paying off big time.

Sony has built themselves up to be the go to for a lot of indie developers.

MasterCornholio1696d ago

Indies are pretty important in this industry so I agree with you.

Volkama1696d ago (Edited 1696d ago )

But AAA developers have resources and publishers. Indies need more support than someone like Infinity Ward. They're not going to get a "piece of the pie" without a leg-up.

And Sony give them support. Sony have a people who's role is to reach out to and support Indies.

Not having a catchy name for that work is neither good or bad really.

"Treating independent developers with the same community value as AAA developers?"

if last E3 was any indication, they had 8 indie developers on stage time for promotion for indie games prime stage time that mainly only big publishers get. The very fact Sony is doing that shows they are showing real promotion on indies that pretty much has really been unheard of from the past.

It's the right attitude to have and it's paying off.

EBTpickle1696d ago

If the amount indie content they have in the pipeline for 2014 is any indication, devs think they're doing something right as well.

MikeGdaGod1696d ago

that's the smart position to be in

OrangePowerz1696d ago (Edited 1696d ago )

Good attitude.

Regarding [email protected] we haven't heard anything from that since a while now so who knows how that will work in the end.

sinspirit1696d ago (Edited 1696d ago )

If you build it they will come.

Yep they made it just right for developers to bring forth their creations.
