Analyst on Nintendo exiting hardware: It's 'off the agenda'

Industry analyst David Gibson seems to be one of the few analysts who uses reason as he recently stated that he doesn't think Nintendo is even considering giving up on making gaming hardware. (3DS, David Gibson, Nintendo DS, Wii, Wii U)

I like the WiiU. I like the 3DS. And I'm sure I will like their next system as well. I hope they continue to make hardware for a long time into the future.

Thats ok because sites like this are read by very few of the poeple who are interested in Nintendo products.

This site and all other sites really are not "the" word in gaming. In the grand scheme of things, a very small precentage of the gaming community takes part in all this internet bickering.

Just ask yourself how many of your gaming friends and family take part in these discussions here on these sites. I have dozens of gaming friends and family members who purchase games, yet I am the only one of them that is actively involved in these gaming forums. There are a lot of you who are probably in the same boat and we all probably account for less than 5-10 percent of the game buying public. Take that into consideration when perusing the comments. The trolls are in the minority!

True gamers know that Nintendo will do much better when they start bringing out the big guns. They have alot up their sleeves and we still havent seen much of the so-far announced games. Once we have more info and release dates for the biggies, things will seem much better for Nintendo and the Wii U. Thats one thing that we can be certain of because Nintendo does not abandon systems they put this much effort into. They kept the n64 afloat and turned around the 3DS Im pretty confident the Wii U will be ok in the long run.

Its only year 2 of the system. Its asinine to count Nintendo out. Ive heard this same spiel since the SNES days! They used to say that competition from Panasonic's 3DO would doom Nintendo... lol. I know its different now with the PS4 and Xbone being great systems, but still. We need to let the system breathe.

People keep taking like the Wii U is already dead. It's only been a year, and since Nintendo is a software developer, even if they didn't have any more third party support(which wouldn't happen anyway) they would still have a compelling library. Nintendo only sold about 20 units of both the N64and the GameCube, and they've persisted in making profit. By the way, to the people that seem to misunderstand: Nintendo still posted a net profit for the fiscal year. They only posted an operating loss. Not the same thing as losing money. Sony on the other hand, posted $6 billion in losses from the first years of the PlayStation 3, and yet they persist as well. Even though Nintendo is valued as a larger company and Sony has been given a junk credit rating by international creditors. The point is that neither Sony nor Nintendo will be exiting the hardware market anytime soon. Though it's definitely more likely that Sony will.

Other than the fact Nintendo has repeatedly stated they are NOT getting out of the hardware business.
