More Epic Than Epic: What We Want From The Next Gears Of War

Dealspwn writes: "Every death, every twist, every hard-won battle and every sacrifice in the Gears Of War canon harks back to a single pivotal event in Sera's history: Emergence Day. The Locust blitzkrieg changed everything, yet the games have proved surprisingly reluctant to actually show it to us beyond a couple of brief cutscenes. Even Judgment chickened out, opting to set its campaign after this all-important conflict. It's high time we experienced E-Day in all its savage and desperate glory, seeing how the pristine cities of Sera became the charred rubble we've seen in game after game, as massive sinkholes open up beneath the gathered COG war machine." (Gears of War, Xbox One)

Scrapping all of the new mechanics and gameplay changes that judgement introduced would be a nice start.

Agreed, but I think that's pretty much a given. Judgment was very much a spinoff, so I doubt its Angry Birds-esque extra features will make it into the core series.

Though, erm, hopefully this doesn't mean that Gears of War Exile comes back now that Kinect is a bit more precise...

Oh man, that would be terrible.
I'm fine with kinect supplementing the full non-kinect, traditional experience, but I do not want kinect to significantly intersect with the newer games.

And with the way Fable Journey sold, I suspect ms has learned its lesson regarding attaching a full kinect experience to their major franchises.

I would love to have the option to do the chainsaw motions with kinect. Overall just bring me traditional GOW gameplay with a new story. The story should take place after the "supposed" death of the queen. No prequels, many years should have passed and the locust have been forming a new army on a new world, something along those lines would be great.

Personally I'd like to see a re-boot starting with the Pendulum Wars and a younger Hoffman, Mataki, Adam Fenix and Helena Stroud, maybe 3/4 into the game we are introduced a young Marcus Fenix and Carlos Santiago (older brother of Dom).

The next game could be all about E-day and the games after that would fill in the 10 year gap between E-day and Gears 1.

I don't want Kinect anywhere near Gears.

Also as I said in another post, what make a few folks think that the next Gears game would be exclusive to the Xbox One?
Microsoft would be foolish to exclude 80+ million Xbox 360 users.

I'd play that.

I'd play that hard.

In all seriousness, though, the Pendulum/E Day setting would be excellent, and a real contrast to everything we've seen before. Bigger battles, and a look at the COG in their glory days.

My main grievance with Judgment was the lack of multi player stuff included when compared to the previous game. So as long as they pack plenty of modes, skins and, most importantly for me, maps in the game (and not save them for dlc) I'll be happy.

Nothing really. I just wanted to remember it as a 360 series that was very cool. Not rehashed and folded into Xbox One.

So nothing from last gen should carry over?

No Uncharted?
No KZ?
No Halo?
MilkMan  +   524d ago
Look, Id rather new games with the OCCASIONAL, far in-between remaster or true sequel from last gen. But what was the point of all this next gen hoopla if we playing the same thing?

Lets do new thing or at least, lets do new things FIRST.

TBH I love the sentiment. We were excited about NEW games at the start of the last generation - ironically, like the revolutionary "Gears Of War" that everyone was talking about. Not sequels.

However, I'm a weak human being, and I'd... rather like some more Gears etc. Like comfort food, perhaps.

Gears of war, ah I just luv that series. Coop was great & Horde mode was awesome, hope that returns with it.
Convas  +   524d ago
Please, more like Gears of War 3, less like Judgment if possible.

I say they take Gears into the future, maybe 20 or 30 years later. Have the humans rebuild cities and live in a sort of utopia as a new, more sinister (advance) Locust start to emerge.

Setting it in the future will give Black Tusk room to make new weapons, new environments, new characters and a fresh story. Have older characters appear throughout the new trilogy as a WTF moment.
