Sequel Showdown: Uncharted 2 vs. Uncharted 3

Hardcore Gamer: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was one of the Playstation 3's first big exclusives, and while it didn't quite reach its potential, it was a solid game. Its two sequels, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, however, are the real deal. They took all the promise of the first game and executed on it, delivering two of the best action adventure games of the past generation. However, the question remains, which game is better? Let's dig in and find out.

Not even close, Uncharted 2 Hands down. UC2 has a way better story, and on launch had what I consider probably the best multiplayer of last generation. Uncharted 3 had a story that couldnt touch UC2, had game breaking controls on launch, and had a CoD infested mess of a multiplayer.

Oh and they completely messed up Elena's character model in UC3 lol.

Uncharted 2 is seriously amazing, uncharted 3 is overrated and was a serious disappointment when I bought it first day, great visuals though

Irishguy951392d ago

Uncharted 2 the whole game is balanced quality wise, the whole thing is great.
Uncharted 3 the first half sucks, and the second half is great.

Thats what I think. And it's why I believe U2 is a better game.

ooquis1391d ago

Well i never even finished UC2 coz i just lost interest at the end. UC3 blew my mind. so it really comes down to personal taste i guess. But this i do know, UC2 is overrated.

To go more in depth, the article mentions "bullet sponges" oh shit this again, not every damn game has to be like CoD. Sorry but I prefer the "bullet sponges" in UC2 to UC3. UC2 wins there for me.

The Controls, well UC3 is better now but you cannot get back your first play through with any game, your first experience. So once again UC3 loses for me, those controls completely ruined my first play through. UC3 also does not have better crosshairs in my opinion, I prefer the red hit marker to the X across where I am trying to aim.

The characters, as said in the article, the first half of UC3 is paced amazingly and I agree. The part where you are Nate as a kid, was amazing. All of this was very interesting, I liked the villain better in UC3 as well. The part that drug it down for me is Chloe and Elena were just kind of shoe horned in. Which sucks because these are two characters I have already spent hours with and care about, and they felt unimportant to the story. We got more of Sullivan, which was good. Also the last half of UC3 was horrible story wise, everything fell apart.

I wont even go into Multiplayer lol, that would be like a 12 page rant. UC2 crushes every mp out there still. = P

Yeah, I definitely prefer UC2 too. I enjoyed UC3, but it sometimes felt like the setpieces were more important than the plot, because it jumped around from random location to random location so often. UC2's plot just felt a lot tighter and coherent imo.

SoapShoes1391d ago (Edited 1391d ago )

I preferred UC3's plot simply because the plot twist in U2 was exactly the same as in the first. I saw it coming a mile away where I didn't in Drake's Fortune. That's what made U2's plot just meh to me. U3 did have that supernatural element too but it turned out not to be real like in the first two. Also Marlow > Lazaravich. Lazaravich is just too unrealistic. Some warlord going around causing havoc, not realistic because he'd have world powers on his tail in a heartbeat. A person of a secret society working in the shadows, that's more realistic.

Overall I'd say it's a tie.

UC2 Will always be a game that ill remember when i think back of PS3 Games.
The game to me SP at least was very engaging i felt every bit drake was going threw cinematic action packed gameplay awsome. But lets not forget the visual stunningness of them textures yes im a Graphics whore i wont lie, Many games do cut copy paste design when comes to detail art i can tell you Naughty dog with uncharted 2 well they did good job making most things indipendant no 2 things the same even if its a line or two tone foliage. Attention to detail awsome scenaery breath taking. UC3 Wwas good but wasnt same devs that did UC2 i felt that in UC3 as good as it was it wasnt UC2 at least for me.

HammerKong1391d ago

yeah UC2 was Miles better yhan UC3,UC3 was only good but UC2 was outstanding ,but i dont agree on the best multiplayer of last gen but was among the best 3rd person shooter based multiplayers.

plaZeHD1391d ago

Im sorry when did her asian side come out? It is not just this picture either I could link a ton more too. I noticed it almost instantly upon seeing her in the game.

Who gives a crap about the MP in Uncharted? It's all about the SP.

itBourne1390d ago

I thought so too, until I discovered what was probably the best mp this generation. Arguably one of the most competitive too, in the sense of how much skill is required. UC2 was absolutely amazing mp wise, definitely a game I miss.

Uncharted 2 destroys Uncharted 3, not even a debate. Uncharted 3 was the dark horse of the trilogy, it was essentially a copy and paste of Uncharted 2, have a look at this video:

Ha, that's a good video, I never even noticed the similarities before, but it seems so obvious now. I still love Uncharted 3, but Uncharted 2 was my favorite for sure.

mike32UK1392d ago

It has to be number 2 for me. I loved both games but at time the second was released it was so damn polished to a standard than I'd never seen before. The acting, the controls, the graphics, the story... Everything. With the third one It was just more of the same, which is by no means a bad thing. It just means that it didn't feel as fresh as the second one. In all honesty the only time I felt like that again was with playing the last of us, absolutely blew me away. Jesus Christ I sound like a naughty dog elitist haha!

ChaosKnight1392d ago (Edited 1392d ago )

Uncharted 3 is better if only for the fact that it was set in a desert environment, which lent much better to the Indiana Jones style the series had always tried to cultivate. It really came into its own with Uncharted 3.
