Survival Horror Is Officially Back

Rich Drummond of Richie D Rants says:

"If there’s one thing I love more than anything in video games or even movies, it’s the feeling of being scared out of my mind. Being sucked into a world so much that I feel as if I’m in it and sitting on the edge of my seat the entire time is something that I just can’t get enough of. Looking to the future, this is something that we as a gaming community can look forward to more than ever with an amazing onslaught of games hitting the market."

I'm glad there are games like Evil Within and Alien Isolation in the works. They will make a nice change from the FPS jump-scare games tailored for youtube streamers that have been saturating the horror genre for the last few years

I agree. The Evil Within really has me excited. Hopefully it doesn't fall flat.

Yes, it is time we got some decent Survival Horror games again. I absolutely loved playing Silent Hill 2 in the dead of night with lights off using my surround system when everyone else was in bed. Scary as hell.

Bring them on.

I thought it was back with ZombiU.

I hope they make a sequel (true or spiritual). It really showcased how to use the gamepad to the fullest and was true zombie survival horror. I know the sales weren't there and many reviewers couldn't get past the fact it was trying to be realistic (you couldn't run and gun or two-hit ppl) or the melee combat was too limited, but it really tried to set the bar in various ways.

When WiiU sales pick up it would be nice to see Ubisoft learn from their past mistakes and have another go. The industry needs redemption from Dead Space 3 and RE6 (though you can find some great survival horror now). Lower the overbearing action and bring back the tension, scares, and stress of what the genre used to be about

I actually did a piece on ZombiU a little while back. I absolutely loved it and its atmosphere is great.

Give it a look if ya want.

If the wii u sales pick up that is.

Call it weird, but ZombiU really isn't a horror game to me, at least not in the same field as Amnesia or RE4 is. ZombiU was scary more in the way that Dark Souls was scary: fear of death and losing all your progress. I wasn't really scared of what was killing me, but more the fact that I was being killed in the first place.

It certainly has the horror aesthetic of zombies, and while it definitely emphasizes the "survival", I have trouble calling it "horror."

That's just me, though.

I have big hopes for Evil within. My fave Survival Horror games is the REmake.
