More Unorthodox, Japanese Games, Please

CCC Says: "We need more genre diversity in this country; our games are too straightforward and conventional. Catlateral Damage and Mew-Genics aside, most titles tend to fall into the same mold, especially on consoles. It's time for Western developers and publishers to open up their minds and either start being more creative, or begin localizing some of Japan's more unorthodox gems." (Industry)

Need more games like Catherine. I hope we get that free in the U.S. for PS Plus on Valentine's Day.

Of course we need more genre diversity. That would be incredible. But "unorthodox Japanese games" don't sell too well here in the West. They're usually niche games; that's why there aren't more of them released here.

Innovation is rare in gaming these days. The same series populate the charts each month. If we got some odd, obscure Japanese-developed game, I'd more than likely play it and so would others, but when it comes to selling well in the West, Japanese-developed titles rarely make a big dent.
