Of course we need more genre diversity. That would be incredible. But "unorthodox Japanese games" don't sell too well here in the West. They're usually niche games; that's why there aren't more of them released here.
Innovation is rare in gaming these days. The same series populate the charts each month. If we got some odd, obscure Japanese-developed game, I'd more than likely play it and so would others, but when it comes to selling well in the West, Japanese-developed titles rarely make a big dent.
