Robocop Review - Chet & Jon

Glu Games' scrappy freemium reskin of Frontline Commando is passably entertaining, and doesn't appear to be overly concerned with hounding you for cash.

The thing I don't understand about the Robocop Reboot is why is he totally encapsulated in his suit except for one hand? I mean a bionic hand would probably be a lot stronger and whatnot, plus its a vulnerable point. What up Hollywood?

frelyler3740d ago

It's a nod to the original. They wanted to keep the arm and the slimy corporation guys says no and tells the he only needs the brain.

That's kind of cool. Weird to hear that Omnicorp isn't so evil after all. They had that cocaine-fueled 80's slease that just made them easy to hate. When Detroit went bankrupt last year I was waiting to hear that they had been bought by omnicorp. :)

I have no faith in this reboot of Robocop. I already know it'll be PG-13, the first nail and Murphy getting caught in a car explosion?? Second nail...what will be the third nail??

I do have confidence in the reboot. Have you checked out the director's other work? He's great. Trailer for this movie looks pretty damn good as well.

I have not seen any of his other work but I IMDB'd him and those movies look pretty boss. I'll give Robocop a shot but man, the original was such a masterpiece and was so appropriate in its message at the time it came out.

This new one can't possible match that, but again...we'll see.

You should at the least check out the trailer for Tropa de Elite. This guy really knows his craft.

As far as the original Robocop is concerned: I always thought the premise was great, but I'm not a big fan of the movie itself. The direction is just cheap shock-value, it has a mediocre cast and thus acting, and the dialogue is often pretty terrible. I can understand why people love it, mostly cause at the time it was something pretty original with quite a few stand-out scenes, but I always felt it could have been much better, cause there's just so many areas that could have been improved on.

The original just isn't a movie that ever looks stunning, it doesn't have a memorable soundtrack, and the acting is just 'meh' most of the time. It's a great premise caught in a mediocre movie.

What makes the original so good is that it's a satire on the whole 80's era culture.

The over the top violence, big corporations controlling the government, corporations being ran by greedy, rich old men, a crumbling society where jobs are scarce, crime is on the rise and the self centered television ads and the tagline for the number one show in the movie "i'll buy that for a dollar" was brilliant.

Robocop is really a testament of a the common worker literally being turned into nothing more but a cog for big business and then slowly realizing he's not just a machine for the man but his own person.

This new one looks to be a "meh" remake just like the remake of Total Recall. But who knows maybe this movie will have it's own message the same way the original did for that time. But something tells me it'll be all explosions and tame PG-13 violence with little substance.

Is that because you have seen the new one? If not then you can't say that until you do.

Five Movie Games that Don't Suck Big Time

Carl Williams writes, "Historically, movie licensed games or games created to celebrate a movie, have sucked worse than many of the original titles on any given platform. With the popularity of Android as a gaming platform, games have come fast and heavy including those that carry the license of a major movie. As usual, some suck, some don’t and a few are better than anyone would have given them a chance to be. Here are five of the better ones that Android gamers can grab, for free if you avoid In App Purchases on your Android device right now."
