Mobile gaming is an atrocity and bringing great first party Nintendo titles to a sub par platform would greatly decrease the quality of the Nintendo brand even more.

Who would want to play a crappy mobile version of Zelda or Metroid?

Yeah Nintendo, please NEVER listen to the Media/hobby analysts.
They would go down in flames if this happend.

Why? Why is this a hot topic for discussion? How would this save them?

If the WiiU were to die and be discontinued tomorrow, they would still survive on their handheld market alone. Mobile phone gaming isnt the answer, not by a long shot.

Plus, if it ever came down to it, going third party would be way better. PS4 & One sales have already surpassed WiiU's. Releasing Mario on a Rapidly increasing install base would have huge profits.

Sure there are more cell phones then there ever will be consoles, but how many of you Honestly ever pay more then $1.99 for games? I've had a smart phones for 6 years, and I can count the number of Games on one hand that cost over $2. Because don't think Nintendo would sell Mario and Zelda at the same price as Angry Birds.
