Rovio exec Peter Vesterbacka says focus on branding outside of gaming has allowed the franchise to explode in prominence and popularity.
....yes, it is. It's nothing more than a time waster mobile game that you play while you while for something....like a train....or a doctors appointment, lol.
What do you expect the developer to say? "Angry Birds is totally a fad and one we hope people don't get sick of, which is why we're selling out now and putting the birds on everything!"
Thats were my man your WRONG.. My son is crazy on angry birds has toys games them plush toys.. Go to school kids got backpacks lunchboxes. My gfirlfreind has 3 girls they all play angry birds there tablets we may not be crazed by it but there is a market. Im in uk not sure were you are...
In a year, the kids will wear something else and Angry Birds won't be what it is. That's what happens to fads. I agree that it is a fad. Its time will pass and be replaced by the next fad.
Angry Birds NEEDS to become more than just the game it is though. Branch out into other genres and really spread this thing. Otherwise move on and do a different game, because just clicking at a castle or whatever after a while is extremely boring. There is nothing to build towards really.....just mindless clicking and swiping.
I used to play this game a ton, but I'm over it now.
Haven't touched the game in forever, not even the Star Wars one. My GF was all obsessed with it for a while, couldn't care less about it now. Same with my little brother, he won't even play it for a second anymore. The only difference is they are hammering the game onto other products, yet paying attention to that, its hardly selling. It has bursts, but a majority of it ends up on clearance. It's just a matter of it not catching a new group when one expires. This group gets tired of it, while this new group just found it, repeat.
This game is old news
It has been around for a while now. It basically took off at the same time Ipads did and it got the crest of the wave. It was just lucky timing with a good simple idea. But like any simple ideas, there is only so much you can do with it.
Correct. It WAS a fad.
This casual **** gets on my nerves, and don't get me started about the price, should've been a 1€ app tops on each and every platform.
The only reason is popular is because anyone w a smartphone can download it. Anyone know how well the 360/ps3 retail versions sold?
It sold a million copies as of February 2013 so it didn't include the Wii or Wii version
People still care for angry birds?
Dear people who try to make a case for good mobile gaming: don't use Angry Birds as an example. It's terrible. Absolutely terrible.
More like Dev hopes
That sounds like a threat.
I don't think Angry Birds is a fad, purely on the basis that it has already been around far longer than what I consider a 'fad'. Fads were stealing car badges to wear on necklaces after The Beastie Boys wore VW badges in a video; or wearing bright Shell Suits in the 80's. (Neither of which I did!!)
