The PlayStation 4 is out and it has taken the lead over the Xbox One. But all those great ads we saw last year appear to be tailing off...is it a problem?
They have over two million preorders. At this point it would be folly to promote the PS4 even further. We'll see more promotions when it finally launches in Japan next month.
Yeah it's kind of pointless to try promoting the PS4 when it is so hard to find and selling out as soon as it's available. I think we'll see Sony pushing the PS4 in March with inFAMOUS: Second Son and MLB: The Show 2014. By then there should be more PS4's readily available
Yes, we'll probably see some promotions during the Japanese launch and then things will ramp up for the March release of Infamous. We may see some 'home-grown' promotions IF Driveclub releases in February though. If Sony has the stock ready, they can double up on sales spikes by selling the Driveclub bundle here alongside the Japanese launch. I'm expecting February to be a huge month for Sony with around 1.5 - 2 million consoles sold. edit: I'm not sure WHEN the PS4 releases in February though. If it's late, I could be wrong lol. edit 2: It's the 22nd but I'm going to leave my guess up for fun anyway.
Pretty much. Besides, the world could do with a bit less advertisement. If anything, pump some ad dollars at the Vita (and not just as a PS4 peripheral). Once the launch sale demand begins to slow down a bit, we will see more advertisement from Sony. They still have Japan launch to worry about, so there's that.
Sony have promised to up production and Pachter thinks they can produce 1.4 million a month at the moment (which I agree with). I believe by the end of March, there will be a steady stream of PS4s and more being allocated to the currently PS4 starved regions, with a bigger slice going to the UK and America. I don't think 1 - 1.2 million a month is out of the question, even in the lean periods.
As I've said in other threads, I want to wait and see what demand looks like at the end of Feb. Granted, PS4 is still sought after and still selling out or nearly selling out everywhere, so the launch demand is still high. I'm simply holding off to see how much - if any - post-launch demand tapers off.
The PS4 is destined to sell it self. Even Sony itself does not know how much potential & power this product has!
I hope sony doesn't think like you do. products fail thinking that way. Nintendo and sony thought that about wii-u and vita. You have to have good software support. No one goes out to buy hardware and no games.
I don't think Nintendo had any marketing ideas in regards to the Vita. Anyway, there's kinda no need to advertise the PS4, as there isn't really any stock to sell. Once it can stay in stores, THEN you can up the marketing.
He's right though, the PS4 is selling itself. They don't need to bribe people to advertise/promote it, they don't need to pay companies for exclusivity (because they already have the best 1st party devs in the industry), they just let word of mouth do the talking. But the main aspect that's causing the PS4 to sell so well is Sony's 20 year track record...something that MS just don't have, Sony are known for delivering great exclusives, people trust the brand, they know they won't fail to deliver, just look how the PS3 ended up. So you keep banging on about money and the vita, while you do so people will be grabbing those PS4's as soon as they are available while the X1 sits on shelves everywhere.
Agree !!! It doesn't make sense to promote something that potential consumers will only find is currently unavailable. Once stock catches up and new games are ready we'll see an onslaught of advertising again.
The PS4 doesn't need promotion because the consoles sells by itself.
