13 GB Dead Rising 3 Patch Raises Questions About Gaming's Future

By Jason Schreier: "There's a 13-gigabyte update live for Dead Rising 3 today, and if you think that seems kind of big, well, that's because it's kind of big.1P

This is one of the biggest patches in video game history—our previous definition of "big patch" usually clocked in at 500mb or a gigabyte—and it's designed to both fix issues and "ensure compatibility with the online players and all of the upcoming add-on content that's coming out shortly as well,"

The story is too old to be commented.

I think people should have known patches were going to get larger, developers keep saying that the games themselves are getting larger and larger so it makes sense that the patches will get larger with them.

Also people can continue to moan saying "I shouldn't have to download the DLC if I don't want to but it" but doing this isn't anything new for an online game and they clearly state its for compatibility purposes.

Yeah, but this is too large of a jump. Why would patches have jumped more than ten times in size, when the games haven't? 13GB is the size of a whole game, itself.

So I installed the disc version of Dead Rising 3 today. It took about an hour (It took 20 minutes to reach 'Ready to Start', but another 40 minutes to finish). Did it download the patch as well? I couldn't figure out if I still need the patch, and if so, how I get the patch to download. I am not sure if I am up-to-date.
