Dark Souls 2 is rated T for Teen. Cause for concern?

GameZone writes, "Well this is a strange turn of events. Namco released an all new trailer for Dark Souls II; however something else caught our eye. It happens so quick that you might miss it. Apparently the game's ESRB rating is T for Teen, which is strange, considering Dark Souls and Demon's Souls both have an M rating attached to them. Should this call for concern?"

As long as the difficulty is still there, it can be rated whatever it wants.

Casual Souls II confirmed.

Thanks Namco.

the european PEGI for Dark Souls got a '16' for 16 years of age thats just the same as T so i wouldnt worry. theres nothing really to justify a M or 18 rating anyway, so.. :')

ALARM-clock3752d ago (Edited 3752d ago )

Dark Souls 1 was rated PEGI 16.

LAWSON723752d ago

Teen is 13 or older in US, not 16.

MestreRothN4G3752d ago (Edited 3752d ago )

We know this site's standard is really really low, but this time they have set a new bottom, even on their ultra stupid record.

FFS... The T rating refers only to the trailer!

Are you really so despaired for clicks since can't do anything even close to intelligent, useful or informative?

SilentNegotiator3752d ago

Wouldn't they have specifically mentioned that it was for the trailer if that were the case?

SeraphimBlade3752d ago

I have not once in my life heard of a trailer getting a rating separate from the game.

MysticStrummer3752d ago

The final rating will be based on the finished product, so this rating could very well be based on either the video itself or what the ESRB has seen of the game so far.

SeraphimBlade3752d ago

That just isn't how ESRB does things as far as I know. If it didn't have a "final rating" they wouldn't give it one at all. How many times have you heard the phrase "this product is not yet rated?"

SilentNegotiator3752d ago

"The final rating will be based on the finished product, so this rating could very well be based on either the video itself or what the ESRB has seen of the game so far"

I believe they have something called "RP - RATING PENDING" for that period in the development.

MysticStrummer3752d ago

If you look on the actual ESRB site, it says the rating can be assigned and changed more than once throughout the process.

1) Trailers are never rated independently.
2) You need to revisit your definition of the word "despaired".

Vithar3752d ago

no concerns here. If you're playing Souls for titties, you have problems lol

SilentNegotiator3752d ago

Color me confused. That's definitely an ESRB rating symbol with descriptors, but the ESRB site doesn't have the game list yet: http://www.esrb.org/ratings...

The first two games earned their M rating in violence alone, so I would be shocked if this were true.

Hidetaka Miyazaki claims Dark Souls 2 “carried” the series forward

Dark Souls 2 remains a divisive entry in the landmark RPG franchise, but Hidetaka Miyazaki believes it led to the success of Elden Ring.

The game isn't good though.

DS2 was fine. While there was a bit of recycling assets or ideas for bosses, it was a bigger more open Dark Souls. The Fume knight boss is one of the hardest bosses in the series until Sekiro and Elden Ring were released.

CrimsonWing6958d ago

The problem with Dark Souls 2 was the same problem when a different director takes over for a sequel to an outstanding movie. It typically (there are exceptions) doesn’t have the feel and vision of the previous movie.

I wouldn’t say Dark Souls 2 is terrible. Had Dark Souls 1 never been a thing and we got this, I think it would have been praised more. The problem is it didn’t have the Miyazaki touch to it and felt pretty derivative. The soundtrack is a banger though.

Aussiesummer58d ago

And it will happen in the future when he doesn’t touch them as he is planning on.

MrBaskerville58d ago

I like DS 2, might even be my favorite of the 3. But it's a hard sell, there's so many obscure things you need to do to make it an enjoyable experience. So always find it hard to recommend, but it is worth the trouble.

All the bosses are only from Dark Souls. No Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring, or Demon Souls
