Sony Japan President: PS4′s Success in the West is Motivating Japanese Developers Too

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia President Hiroshi Kawano is obviously quite happy about the explosive success of the PS4 in the west, but the reasons behind his satisfaction go beyond simple sales.

My guess is that there's just no dev team on it and it's taking a while to get one for it.

There was an article a few weeks back showing Sony hiring for it for PS3 cell development for it so who knows.

I personally think it's going to be launching 2014-15 early 16.

I don't see Disgaea, Valkyria Chronicles, Ressonance of Fate, Tales of Graces / Xillia, SMT / Persona, or Ni no Kuni got 'westernize'.

Yeah maybe FF XIII but that's the only JRPG that i knew got 'westernize'. And Demon's / Dark Souls are just followed their predecessor footsteps which is King Field.

i want the ps2 era i really do but it is the practices with DRM and DLC. And the fact developers are getting lazier by the year. But if we get the same quality it will be an amazing generation with sony leading the way.

Hopefully the motivation is to DO NEW THINGS or do interesting things with existing genres. Like dark souls and dragon's dogma. Instead of say: telling the exact same depressed shy outcast teenager anime story/exact same depressed teenager anime story who hides his feelings by acting stupid and overly in all of their jrpgs. There's a reason why dark souls is so popular here in the west. Take notes on why the west is getting all the tens of millions of sales and GOTY awards. Take notes eastern developers, take lots and lots of notes.

Don't you get tired of looking like an idiot? I mean, I don't want to offend(I'll get marked back down to one bubble), but I can't really think of another way to put it. When you come into any article related to Japanese games, you show you are COMPLETELY ignorant of the subject. Almost offensively so.

All that "depressed shy outcast" BS you continually spew... it's called "depth." Japanese characters tend to be heavy on the depth. And heavy on growth. I have yet to find a Western game with a full cast of characters as intriguing and intricate and that GROW like Persona 3. Or 4. Or Nier. Or any of another dozen games out of Japan. And sure, not every game has that, but many of them do.

I don't know why I'm wasting my time. Your intent is to remain ignorant on the subject, so it's not like anything anybody says to you will change that.

But, if you could, do the rest of us a favor and keep your ignorance to yourself. Thanks in advance.

The next few months will be crucial. PS4 needs to not only sell well in Japan but excite the home base, convince Japanese Devs that consoles are not dead and that mobile is not your *only* choice.

Lets hope that with the new generation, Japanese developers start to find their legs again. Seemed like many of them struggled with PS3 and previous gen as a whole.
