The Dreamcast is perhaps gaming's most glorious failure. The latest episode of Adventures in Tech tells the story of Sega's incredibly innovative yet ultimately doomed console, and to celebrate we've compiled a gallery of gorgeous Dreamcast photos.
Without the dreamcast the ps4 wouldn't be as amazing as it is because the dreamcast set the trend for alot of amazing features available today on modern consoles
Agree. so many good memories from this console.
If you guys have a pang of nostalgia brought on by this article, please approve it so more can enjoy. Thanks.
Giant gram wrestling.....that is all
this console was insane! Power Stone, Grandia 2...
Great console I remember playing virtua tennis on it and it was so fun but it died so quickly, sad
@abzdine Oh my! Those was my favorite games! Powerstone to play with friends was just as hilarious as bomberman for N64, and Grandia 2 its one of my alltime personal best rpg Dont forget Jet Set Radio, Shemnue, Virtua Tennis, Code Veronica... Tears flowing down...
Crazy Taxi, House of The Dead, DOA2, Skies of Arcadia, Capcom vs SNK, Soulcalibur, Head Hunter, Sonic, MSR, Daytona, Dino Crisis remake, Evolution, Ready 2 Rumble, Soul Reaver, Guilty Gear, SEGA Rally..... SEGA GT????????????? i can go on and on with how rich in hits the DC gaming library was..... I cannot BELIEVE why it failed suddenly, i just can't!
Dont forget one of the best sports game at the time NBA 2K
I still have my Dreamcast hooked up in the living room along with my PS4. I still play it at least once a week. Can't get enough House of the Dead!
The WiiU to me is like a successor to the Dreamcast. VMU's were great at the time, but the WiiU controller really takes the concept to the next level.
I feel the same way about the Wii U's gamepad. Except Sega led the way with innovative online features. Wii U is getting some really cool games, but nothing on the level of Shenmue. Dreamcast had its crown jewel within one year of the console being on the market.
I still have my launch unit along with a couple NIB ones just in case. Probably my favorite console to date. The games still look and play great.
Even as much of a PlayStation fan as I am, I sometimes ponder what gaming would be like currently had it been the DreamCast that won the console battle and not the PS2. Heck, everyone can see that the DreamCast had some great features - the first console to have an online option out of the box, for example.
never came out in Australia so I have no attachment to this thing.
No it did. I bought it here from Bankstown (Sydney) with Shenmue. I still have the console.
One of my favourite consoles of all time.
I never had a Dreamcast. At the time PS1 was too good to even care for another console. Then the PS2 came lol.
Who else is off to ebay to find one? :D I didnt actually play many games on mine, mainly just the sonic adventure games
I still have mine, sitting in a box with the copy of Soul Reaver that my friend gave to me. I should set it up some day soon...
Play n trade have them for 39.99. East coast. One if my favorite systems ever, and supportes a dvi output which means it upscales to hd. Truly miss this machine.
no need for me, I have one right here and it's still kicking ;-)
Jealous. Can I come over? I've still got Crazy Taxi.
Lol! I want to go too! You got the pizza n I got the beers! We are set. Just tell me when a where.
and @Aghashie bring it on guys, it's a Dreamcast night tonight, who dares me in a Soul Calibur match? ;-]
@segamon That reminds me I still got the dreamcast arcade stick stored on my closet. Last time I hold it in my hands was like two years ago. I had the intention to mod it to make it PS3 compatible, but... I couldn't do it. I felt like I was about todestroy something beautiful, so I desist the idea. Have been a long time since I last plugged this controller into a dreamcast, so I'll gladly accepted your challenge. I suck @ soul calibur, so I don't expect to win, but I don't care. It's gonna be fun to play w my controller once more. :)
Challenge accepted. I will destroy you both on Soul Calibur with my mastery of Nightmare, as well as an occasional sick move or two with Astaroth!! You will then be required to pay me tribute with six bottles of Founder's Breakfast Stout and a king sized Milk Duds.
Kain is one ugly farker.
the one and only Wonderboy! it is always nice to see you around brother :-) don't be prejudiced, Kain's character is the most iconic anti-hero figure in my long years of gaming memory. so complex, overseeing and conflicted and torn between good and evil one cannot simply overlook, and of course, there's Raziel and the rest of the cast. the ending of Defiance brought our knees and jaws to the ground in awe and shock. I still remember Raziels last words to Kain, so profound and reflective. only few games back then had such unique and lasting experiences. I wish you played it.. and DOOM lol ;-D I know you hate the DOOM argument wanna settle this in a Soul Calibur match? I still have the copy you gifted me ;-)
Why hasn't Squinix remade/rebooted the series yet? I am inclined to play the older games, but the graphics might make me sick.
Double post. Please ignore.
Still got mine. This machine was the last bastion of hope for the 2D fighting game fan back in those days. The only console to get Street Fighter 3 (all versions), Capcom vs. SNK (and 2), Marvel vs. Capcom 2, King of Fighters 98-2k2, Guilty Gear X and Last Blade 2. At the time, at least. Some games found their way onto other systems years later, and I'm glad I did't wait. Plus, Power Stone 2, Shenmue, Code Veronica... what a mighty little machine it was. Might have to dust it off later and give an old spin, for old times.
Spot on. Great little beast that was forcefully made to retire due to Sega's mistakes.
As i said before, hype for PS2 killed off DC, people overlooked it even when it had better than arcade perfect ports and other great games. DC could even emulate PS1 games better than the PS2 could, and most of DC's game graphics were up there with PS2 titles.
My reckless older brother sold his Dreamcast and PS1 instead of giving them to me.
I promised I wouldn't cry. /me wipes tear away.
Still the greatest console of all time.
The greatest advancement in console gaming would no doubt be a console that didn't last long.... the TurboGrafx-CD system. Not only was it the first CD-Rom based console, its graphics were unmatched at the time, for the first time ever games had full musical scores, video cut-scenes, 512 colors (NES had 48, Genesis had 64), and it was 4x more powerful than NES. The jump in technology was so great, it would be like replacing the PS2, not with the PS3 but the PS4. Dreamcast was a sweet system though.
Man i wish sega would make a dc2. Id buy it. Want the led vmu also.
Funny how now everyone like the Dreamcast. I don't think I was born yet when Dreamcast came out. How did it die ? Sales ?
All Sega had to do was make sure this thing played DVDs and it would rule the market like the PS2 did.
Still has the best 1st party lineup ever
plot twist...the xbox brand is carrying on the dreamcast, people from microsoft co developed and marketed the dreamcast and vice versa http://kotaku.com/5859934/t...
