Your First Look at The Last of Us’ Single Player DLC

Colin Moriarty of IGN writes: "The Last of Us, a PlayStation 3-exclusive that just won IGN’s 2013 Game of the Year, was an emotional experience built upon a cast of characters that players loved and cared about, and occasionally distrusted, disliked, or outright hated.

With Left Behind, the very first (and perhaps only) single-player DLC created for The Last of Us, gamers will be reintroduced to one such character they came to adore – the brave, bold young girl named Ellie – and an all-new character, her trusted friend Riley."

Can't wait to dive back into The Last of Us, I'm currently reading through American Dreams again to get ready for this DLC :)

Xsilver1594d ago

Definitely buying this can't get enough of The last of US.

miyamoto1593d ago

ND said TLOU is a franchise so that means more TLOU to come

Conzul1594d ago (Edited 1594d ago )

Oh glory, praise be to ND that I may now play with two teenage girls as they wander through a mall!!!! I have ALWAYS wanted to do that!!!
/s

I'm sure it'll be.... interesting. According to Ashley Johnson this won't be tough, lovable Ellie, but younger, girlier Ellie. Ugh.

cleft51594d ago

The creepy factor is so high on what you wrote here. You might want to move away from any sarcastic or condescending statements until you are better at writing them. And yeah I am looking forward to checking out the dlc as well...

Conzul1594d ago (Edited 1594d ago )

Eh, there's barely anything I won't joke about.

Also, I didn't mean to disparage Naughty Dog's narrative prowess. I'm sure that whatever they do will be fun or moving. It's more about how, out of all the possibilities presented by The Last of Us, they went with this one.

And no matter how creepy you find my quip, face it: in a few weeks when this drops, we'll all be doing just that.

-Foxtrot1594d ago (Edited 1594d ago )

I really can't wait for this but highly disappointed with the characters stories they told to tell in this. If your a big enough Last of Us fan you would of read the American Dreams comic or read the plot online.

I wouldn't mind if they said they were doing 3-4 DLCs but they said they are only doing 2 so I at least wanted to see characters we have absolutely no backstory on like Tommy, Bill, Tess etc

I wanted to see Joel/Tommy right after <SPOILER> Sarah got shot and how the landscape over the years slowly turned to ruins

Nitrowolf21594d ago (Edited 1594d ago )

I feel the same way. I'll buy it, but I already read The American Dreams, it just feels "spoil" at this point, even if they move me somehow it's like going in to watch a movie that been highly awarded for visuals and story, yet the twist is basically spoiled so you can';t enjoy it as much. I think playing as Ellie might give some new gameplay mechanics though, hopefully.
“On the surface, we’re being protected from the Infected [at the school],” she explained. “[The powers that be] have us there kind of learning how to basically, at a certain age, fight the Infected at some point. So, it’s pretty boring. It’s kind of like what you’d imagine military school would be: wake up, eat, chores around the quarantine, learning how to protect yourself, and that sort of thing.”

“But it’s very strict,” she continued. “I feel like it’s more about control over these kids than it is really teaching them anything or helping them in any way.”

It's gonna be good, I trust Naughty Dog for that, and they are exploring some things mor ein-depth.

Would have preferred a story with Tommy and Joel

(they are doing three DLC BTW, but two are Multiplayer)

@Below

Yea, the first Multiplayer maps already released. I love the multiplayer though, so least for me it's a win win, but would have preferred a fourth dlc for another SP.

-Foxtrot1594d ago (Edited 1594d ago )

"I feel the same way. I'll buy it, but I already read The American Dreams, it just feels "spoil" at this point"

I know what you mean, Ellies backstory is out there for us to look into. It's done, move on and tell us another characters story.

"Would have preferred a story with Tommy and Joel"

Yeah me aswell, it could of taken course over the twenty year gap untill they spilt up. Then at the end you would see Joel meet Tess.

It would of been a fantastic thing to witness and play. I know what happened to Riley and I know what happened to Ellie in the end

"(they are doing three DLC BTW, but two are Multiplayer)"

Really? So this is the only Single player DLC they are doing.....THAT'S EVEN WORSE :O

It will be good obviously, you know by my comments how I like ND and the Last of Us but such a wasted opportunity :|

I do find it hillarious that I'm going to get disagreed to death now. Guys Last of Us was amazing, ND are but lets not pretend that this story was the best choice.

Marlene, Tess, Tommy, Bill...come on these stories would of been better.

GarrusVakarian1594d ago

Looking forward to this, but when i heard ND was only doing one piece of SP DLC i was really disappointed. There are so many stories i wanted to see, Bill, Joel and his brother shortly after the start of the main game, Ish (guy who leaves you letters)......so many missed opportunities.

-Foxtrot1594d ago (Edited 1594d ago )

"but when i heard ND was only doing one piece of SP DLC i was really disappointed. There are so many stories i wanted to see"

Exactly...so it pains me to see waste it on two characters which already have a mini comic book series based on them right up until the end.

As I said if they were doing more DLC then fair enough but with only ONE story DLC it feels wasted

-Foxtrot1594d ago

@Disagrees

Jeez...it's like you can't criticize The Last of Us or NaughtyDog.

Thats pretty sad. I'd understand if I was a troll that has been calling the game over hyped and crap since its released.

Blacklash931594d ago (Edited 1594d ago )

... Maybe they disagree with your opinion? Or is there something wrong with that?

Disagreeing isn't the same as trying to discredit. Some people are satisfied with the premise of this DLC and want to see more of Ellie.

It puzzles me why people get so defensive over a number under their text.

-Foxtrot1594d ago (Edited 1594d ago )

"Disagreeing isn't the same as trying to discredit."

It kind of it is most of the time, it's why the button needs to go.

"It puzzles me why people get so defensive over a number under their text."

Because most of the time people disagree based on the user, not what the user has said. Other time it's for the sake of it.

Hell Lukas and Nitro above agree in some ways yet they arn't plagued as much disagrees for stating more or less the same thing as me.

I mean what about if you had a user who wrote out a long but very well good comment on something only to see them get disagreed to death for no reason. It would feel like you've wasted your time.

"Some people are satisfied with the premise of this DLC and want to see more of Ellie."

That's fine but it's not like they wouldn't want to see another character, it makes out like they don't want to see Bill, Tess, Marlene, Henry, Sam, Tommy, etc. If you want more Ellie then read the comic, she's the main character, it's there, but for the DLC, for being just ONE more story to tell before they move onto their next game I think more people would of benefited seeing a character with NO backstory whats so ever.

It just makes out you can't say NOTHING bad about the game or ND...you have to like anything they put out there or else your not a fan. Thats what I'm getting from it.

Austin481594d ago (Edited 1594d ago )

@foxtrot
The reason why everyone is disagreeing is because you are constantly complaining about the dlc yea I get it you read the books but please don't ruin it for people who hasn't read it yet and just for the record I would rather play left behind than read the comics.

Z_-_D_-_31594d ago

I would love if the second DLC continued that truck ride at the end....

monkey nuts1594d ago

Anyone know if this will be "free" for season pass holders? Or is it just multiplayer dlc that the season pass grants us?

Please and thank you.
I just bought my PS3 and it has only seen Naughty Dog games so far. Grabbed the Jak and Daxter collection, being that I have only ever played the original, got Last of Us in the bundle and I just grabbed the Uncharted series.
Almost through The Last of Us, and I feel safe to say it is my favorite game of 2013. I can gladly say the original Jak and Daxter still very much holds up and I am having a blast with the original Uncharted, even if I find a few things a bit clunky. I understand the series just gets better moving forward.

So, yeah.
I am a new-found fan of the developer.

Ultr1594d ago

Great to hear this!!!
Dying to see what thex have for us on next gen :)

Studio-YaMi1594d ago (Edited 1594d ago )

Even though you lean more towards PC gaming, gotta admit, even with inferior hardware such as PS3,the team at Naughty Dog made a masterpiece with the Last of Us,such a beautiful one for that matter.

I keep wondering how their games are gonna turn up on the PS4,I think my mind is itching just by the thought of it.

Can't wait for their DLC and for Uncharted 4!
Enjoy your PS3 & the games! :D

AshleeEmerson1594d ago

Oh, I agree. I mean, I can't even fathom the thought of what they could do on a next gen console. It gets better and better.

SlapHappyJesus1594d ago

It's a fantastic game. I went in thinking it wouldn't hold up to what was built-up in my head by others, but it did.

AshleeEmerson1594d ago

Wow, I feel so jealous right now :). You get to experience all of the naughtyness at once. Have fun and thanks for supporting Naughty Dog I really believe in that company, they deserve all the respect they get.

Arkardo1594d ago

I knew Naughty Dog but just played The Last Of Us recently, I happen to be very picky with games in general, I feel very worried about the hype that this game was getting because it only elevates the bar far far up high and that leads to deception most of the time with me.

I'm very pleased to say that it becomes the best game I've ever played ( and thats a hard thing to say if im playing since the intellivision II ), the things that feel playing this game can't describe with words.

I surrender to the almighty ND because you know what us gamers want, and I can only say that I feel sorry for every gamer that are missing on this masterpiece, every gamer have the right to play this game, period.

Ultr1594d ago

Oooh can't wait :))))
