A discussion about why certain games like Rust, World of Warcraft, Minecraft and many MMOs are so addictive. Why do we spend all this time and energy collecting pixels that don't exist?
Blizzard Entertainment has announced the opening of beta registrations for “World of Warcraft: The War Within,” inviting players to explore new subterranean worlds beneath Azeroth.
Danish from eXputer: "Despite Blizzard's attempt to give a fresh new spin to World of Warcraft, some fans still seem to be stuck in the past."
HG writes: "Blizzard is usually pretty bad at keeping secrets, but the company somehow managed to keep this one under wraps until now. Plunderstorm is a special limited-time event that’s basically World of Warcraft’s take on the Battle Royale genre."
" Why do we spend all this time and energy collecting pixels that don't exist?"
Because it brings us personal enjoyment. Why do people spend all this time and energy doing most things in life? Same reason. Whether the thing you are doing is real or make believe is irrelevant, the outcome (personal enjoyment is all that matters.
Is that supposed to be Charlie Sheen? Lol.
Hhahahahahaha yes Charlie Sheen = Addiction. Thanks for the comment and approval.
Winning.
World of Warcraft was changed to be far more addictive then it used to be. This was then blamed on the casual gamer, so that the 15 minute dungeons and PVP instances would not be blamed on the company.
Everything is 15 minutes or less as that is the "ideal time" for going "Okay.. one more.. but then it'll be my last one". Where before a dungeon lasted an evening and would save itself so you could quit and continue later on, it now was blamed on "Not everybody has the time for ...." as they implemented really lazily developed dungeons.
There is no exploring whatsoever any more, and voicing this opinion in the LFG finder will get you chastised by the addicts. They just runt he same few dungeons over and over again just for the chance of a virtual trinket.
As a WoW player I really find it hard to justify any more, I miss the exploration of say.. Vanilla's Black Rock Depths or Black Rock Spire. I miss the 4 hour games of AV on my Orc. But I'm no longer their target audience I already found "Dailies" a good idea but just implemented terribly.
Sadly the casual gamer got the blame, while they where perfectly content in the game doing things on their own pace and their own way.
Just like the old PS3 slogan "This is Living" lol
